I am confident to say that the reason we are not #2 right now is because of our SOS. GVSU needs to keep it close or win with Dayton to go on unless the voters feel GVSU with a loss, is still at the level to compete with the best."

I am not saying where you should be in the poll or pointing out your weak schedule which you accomplished yourself again. This was to show the quality win/loss record for the teams competing for the 4 AL Bids. In my mind, those were the scenarios for each team to obtain one of the AL bids or lose their AL bid. But yes I would agree with you that GVSU has to beat out the margin of the Emory/Dayton game to keep their AL bid.

no pressure, haha, sucks for planning travel.

#12 UVSC

From the last poll, Dayton, GVSU, SJU and Emory would have received the AL bids.

I would say that Dayton has an AL locked up.

GVSU has to not lose big to Dayton and they should have an AL. Otherwise, they could get beat out by UST if SJU were to win, Emory if Emory's loss is a lot smaller than GVSU's in the Dayton games, and Fort Lewis with a strong showing in the RMLC playoffs.

SJU should take the third AL with a solid win over NDSU and a good showing against UST. Otherwise win the UMLL to get the AQ.

Emory has the fourth right now but needs Fort Lewis to have a poor performance in the RMLC playoffs or GVSU to lose big to Dayton to get an AL bid.

Fort Lewis and Montana State are on the outside but need to put up big numbers in the playoffs and they could steal Emory's spot or hope SJU loses big in their playoffs.

after looking closely to this again, i would take 1 win vs a top 5 then 3-4 games against teams in the 15+ this season. There seems to be parity in the top 12, anyone can beat anyone on any given day, but around 15 and above it seems like the competitiveness isnt there like the top 15.

chill out

Postby HDLAX on Sun Apr 27, 2008 11:59 pm

i can no longer be a guest, just reading this, itis getting rediculous...

Grizlens said it. Distance shouldnt be an excuse. A D2 team's budget is completely of their own making. Just bc you are a D2 team doesnt imply you have a smaller budget. And, again, just like Grizlens said, FUNDRAISING, is how they do it. Montana did the traveling as a D2 team.
A reason D2 gets a bad wrap is bc of the complaining and/or using travel distance/money/in-conference level of competiton as excuse or justification. Hence why there has been talk about using D2 as a developmental league. When was the last time BC or Northeastern complained about travel? Let alone Montana or Montana State (who are historically 2 top D2 teams).
Further, a budget is per player. Bigger team equals bigger budget. Therefore just bc a team has less guys, doesnt mean they cant travel bc their budget is smaller. If anything, it should be easier to arrange and plan a team trip with a smaller team. Same proportional cost, with less guys.
If your team is committed to getting better and challenging themselves on the field, money(fundraising) and traveling shouldnt bean issue.

GVLAX- We know your team is good...go to practice, hit the wall, do something…We all know your team is good…you beat the #2 team in the nation, we know this, no need to bring it up over and over.

PS..looks like fort lewis is going to have to take it to Westminster now. Loosing to UNC (who SJU beat) obviously works against their cause. RMLC and SELC seem to be the toughest conferences in D2, maybe that has worked against them in terms of where they stand in relation to other teams (just a thought, no need to brutally pick every word of this statement apart for the next 2 days!!!).

Outside the top 12 I think there is a drop off. Imagin if USD, Claremont and Montana were still in D2. Things would be an absolute mess right now.

This is really becoming a lost cause, I mean apparently everyone should be the same. Let's go back to the 90's where there was one equal league then. Unbelievable.

We know that's true....nothing like seeing all of CMU's 12 guys piling out of a 56 passenger bus......

I'm 100% behind this... (you voters aren't dropping us out of the top 15 are you? If so, this idea sucks.)

UNC beat Fort Lewis 13-12 in OT on Sunday. UNC has now beat two teams that will be going to the RMLC Playoffs (mines 12-8 and fort 13-12). Either UNC needs to move up or Fort needs to move down. UNC's conference losses to MSU and Metro both in OT are what kept UNC out of the RMLC's.
