Carnegie Mellon has been dessemated by a combination of injuries , players dropping off due to academic demands,-etc-you name it! One of their goalies was forced to pick up a long pole last week and started against Grove City(played fairly well I might add). I think they were 3 deep on the sideline last night.
I know its all part of the season--just trying to provide some insight as to why they are struggling so much. Kudos to the coaches and players for plugging the holes and still putting a good team on the field.

I play for and captain the aforementioned Grove City Squad, and I believe 2 things are going on with Carnegie Mellon. First of all, they are severely down in numbers (It is tough to have a successful season with only 15 or 16 guys). Second of all, I believe they have lost to some solid teams, Grove City included. I know we are relatively unknown, and that is largely due to our lack of success over the last 2 years. But we have an excellent freshmen class and the program is definitely moving in the right direction. We hope to prove that this weekend with OOC games against Wheaton and Bethel (I know these are not necessarily top teir opponents, but it will still show what we have relative to the rrest of the country).
I am sure Carnegie Mellon will rebound. Anthony has done a great job with the program

Thats two big divisional losses for Charlotte, what does this mean for thier playoff chances?
Does this mean they are out of the race? What does that do for voters since they dont have enough OOC games for an AL? Do they stay in the top 10? top 20?
My understanding is that they can tie for 2nd place in their Division in the SELC-2....Davidson has the tiebreaker and makes the SELC tournament. Their season is pretty much done because of the OOC. I wouldnt think that this would drop them out of the poll despite having no chance for nationals.
A guy I talked to from the team sounded a bit down after the game and unsure of the future(i.e next season) and I don't blame him.
I predict a ranking between 15-20 for the next poll
Guys, Charlotte does infact have two OOC games. Their season is far from over. They played both U of St Thomas and Baylor (I think). So, they have satisfied their OOC requirements.
They are not out of the SELC playoffs as far as I know. Six teams make the playoffs. And I'm not sure how the wild card teams are decided. Charlotte still faces SCAD (a T10 team), Kenesaw State. So, they may have a very legit claim to the playoffs depending on the outcome. I'm not sure if wild cards go to the 2nd place team from each conference.
With regards to Davidson, they have always had a very good team. Their only major infraction is that they do not abide by MCLA rules and enter game reports/stats (and haven't done so in three seasons). So, they shouldn't qualify for any T25 rankings until they follow the rules just like everyone else.

Baylor is not an MCLA D2 program and therefore would not satisfy the OCC requirement for an at large bid to D2 nationals.
Their only major infraction is that they do not abide by MCLA rules and enter game reports/stats (and haven't done so in three seasons).
Why then does the SELC retain them as a member?

I don't think the OOC requirement specifies that the game has to be D2 vs D2. Is this "officially" correct? I am pretty sure it can be either. But I'd love to know the true rule.
As for Davidson, you make a great point. I think the issue is being hopefully resolved for 2007. Every team needs to abide by the rules or they cannot complain when they get slighted for playoffs or polls. I don't think you can have an official score of a game unless you know who scored those goals and are actually clicking the "did not play" box per player for eligibility issues. It also is a big deal because what's to say a team isn't throwing non-eligible players on the field? Every goal needs to be accounted for - to a player. And your roster must match-up to what players you have written in the books.

Out of conference games MUST be against teams from the same division.
A Division 2 team can only count out of conference games against other Division 2 opponents to meet the 2 game requirement.

Just something for the voters to munch on and to stimulate a little DII talk before Wednesday, so much for the PNCLL being the only conference that is on its head this season….
#6 Utah Valley State – Loss to UNC, Win against Montana State
#7 Ft. Lewis – Wins against Metro State and Colorado School of Mines
#11 Montana State – Wins against Metro State and UNC, Loss to UVSC
#13 University of Northern Colorado – Win against UVSC, Losses to Metro State and Montana State
#22 Metro State – Win over UNC, Losses to School of Mines, Montana State, and Ft. Lewis
#24 Colorado School of Mines – Win over Metro, Loss to Ft. Lewis
Here’s the breakdown of by the rankings
#6 has lost to #13 but beaten #11
#7 has beaten #22 and #24
#11 has beaten #13 and #22, and has lost to #6
#13 has beaten #6 but lost to #22 and #11
#22 has beaten #13, but lost to #24 #11, and #7
#24 has beaten #22 and lost to #7
The way I see it Ft. Lewis is about right with their only loss coming to SDSU, a decent DI team. School of Mines seems about right with their record only reflecting wins and losses they should have. I think that UVSC’s record shows that they should be ranked closer to Montana State and UNC, especially following this weekend’s games. The only wrenches in the whole thing are the fact that Metro State has beaten UNC, and Colorado School of Mines has beaten Metro. So does that mean that all three of these schools should be ranked closer together? If that is the case then should Montana State be ranked with them as well? I’m so glad that I’m not a voter……..

I'll add a bit more to GVLax's comment above. This game was hands down one of the best regular season games I've seen in the last few years of Div. B. Having played and coached for one of the best teams in the division over the past few years, I would like to think that is a pretty exhaustive analysis. Although the team I was cheering for lost, it was still an awesome game to be at.
A few thoughts: The easy one is that GVSU is way too low at #19. They have an incredibly fluid offense and if you look at their box scores, can decipher that they have little trouble scoring. Their attack unit is extremely fluid, efficient and incredibly accurate with both feeding and shooting. Both GVSU and UST have very potent offenses, but they are very different. UST tended to score with longer possessions while GVSU ran the break incredibly well and capitalized on many EMO opportunities. Again, a great sign of their efficiency.
GVSU has hands down the best face-off specialist UST has faced in 4 years. Good on the draw and if he lost it, was good at getting the ball back in the scrum. It was a battle in the middle all day.
GVSU's goalie was stellar. UST took a ton of shots. Not sure what his final save number was as many shots went wide, but the kid could play. Both teams showed signs of brilliance and mediocrity when it came to the clear/ride. But in a game with so many ups and downs that is bound to happen.
The last 6 minutes of the game was completely nuts. It was awesome to see. it was as if UST just decided to come alive and clawed back to tie it with :10 left in regulation.
If GVSU and Dayton meet in the CCLA finals it will be epic. I haven't seen Dayton play since last year, but I know GVSU is a very good team, worthy of in my opinion a top 10 slot. They may not get it in the next poll because of the size of the jump they would have to make, but I believe they'll get there. They didn't have the indulgence of previous year's success to get them high in the early polls and that's why they're so low right now. They'll earn it the hard way though. I was very impressed with the way both teams played on Sunday, and it was a privilege to be there.
