Some surprises for me in this poll.
Oregon at #4? I like Oregon, they are one of my favorite teams. They have a few Berkeley High players and they are good. But, why is Oregon #4 and Colorado #7? They are both unroven, undefeated teams. They are either both better than UCSD and UCSB or both worse, AT THIS POINT IN THE SEASON.
I also thought UMD was a little high after 2 OT wins. Winning back to back OT games is a real accomplishment. It takes great focus to maintain concentration when tired. But those games were close. Also CPSLO is ahead of Utah despite losing to them.
Chapman might be a little too low. As I have said all year long (after the 2 OT game with UCSB), these guys are talented. They should be up with AZ who they beat.
All in all pretty good job. The only significant difference with the message board poll will probably be that UCSD and maybe UCSB will be ahead of Oregon. But where ever Oregon goes, Colorado should be right next to them.

I agree, Oregon shouldn't be ranked 4. UCSD and UCSB have both played/beaten top ten teams so they should be 4 and 5. Colorado and Oregon are pretty much in the same boat at this point in the season, neither have played any top ten teams yet, Colorado at # 6 and Oregon at 7.

By the time the next poll comes out, Colorado will have played UCSB and Oregon will have played Sonoma. It will sort itself out by then.

Rankings

Age old debate. Why is Utah ahead of Chapman, Chapman beat them by 7!! Why is BYU ahead of Poly etc..... we could go on and on.

Chapmans losses to ASU and UCLA will haunt them the rest of the year.

Difficult year to rank 10-20 year.

One other curious thing, Sonoma got 3 first place votes. Were people not paying attention to what happened last week or did they just choose to ignore it?

This poll shows a lot about what is going on in the USLIA. 90 points separate 4 – 9 and 80 points separate 11 – 17, so basically it’s anyone’s guess who belongs where in those ranges and it is going to come down to the final weeks of the regular season to see who is going to be in Dallas. Conference playoffs may change a few things here and there but for the most part teams are gonna have to get things done in the regular season if they want to go to Dallas. Right now it's just a mess in the USLIA with more than enought examples of Team A beating Team B, Team B beats Team C and then Team C beats Team A. Just imagine what the rankings would look like if Chapman beats UCSD and BYU loses to GT. What a mess that would have been.

I'm just glad I'm not a voter!

I do have one question, Poly loses 2 OT games in the same weekend and actually moves up one spot... how does that happen?

I can see the arguement for UCSD and UCSB being 4 and 5, but why would Colorado be ahead of Oregon? Oregon has done more to prove itself.

Oregon
10-0 record
Wins: #11 Duluth, #22 Chico, and #24 Texas

Colorado
5-0 Record
Wins: #24 Texas and #25 Texas Tech

So, Oregon has a better record (10-0 compared to 5-0), more wins against higher ranked oppents (especially the 13-4 win over #11 Duluth). There is no reason not to put Oregon ahead of Colorado right now, unless you are Bias towards one team Fred

Probably due to the fact that Poly has a win over BYU and since BYU beat Florida State, voters may have taken that into consideration and bumped Poly up a spot.

I think you can attribute that to the "any given day" rule. Because of how close that game was those three pollsters felt it could've just as easily gone the other way with Sonoma winning.

Just my guess.

I know someone briefly touched upon it, but I just wanted reemphasize the point that there aren't that many points separating a lot of the top teams. One of the arguments I'm observing is that Oregon should be below UCSD and UCSB, when in fact, Oregon is only 6 (yes, 6) points ahead of UCSD. Let's not forget this isn't the final poll, and that the teams who are in the top 10 have considerably less pressure in regards to making the national tournament than do the teams who are 10-20.

The "any given day" axiom could be true if they have not played yet or there was some contrary evidence that suggests that CSU is not as good as Sonoma. I just don't think that either of those scenarios is valid here. CSU won the game so I don't see how anyone votes Sonoma ahead of CSU at this point.
