I am a little surprised that BYU is in the top ten still. I dont think I can be critical of the poll, I cant imagine what the perfect poll would look like. Not after this past week.

#2 Roll
Odd that my fellow voters vaulted FSU over UCSB. The Gauchos lost twice in close games to top 3 teams, while the Seminoles won a close game over #13 GT. FSU is a quality team, of course, but I don;t see how they deserve to leap-frog UCSB... but this is just my two cents.

Re: #2 Roll
Obviously, I agree, but I don't think a top 4 seed will matter as much this year. With UCSB, Colorado, Oregon, UCSD and BYU in the bottom of the bracket for the second round, no top 4 seed will have it easy. Throw in Lindenwood with a year of tournament experience and you could see some 5 thru 8 teams in the semi's this year.Dan Wishengrad wrote:Odd that my fellow voters vaulted FSU over UCSB. I believe that the top 10 should really look like this:
1) Sonoma State- really no reason to move them from the top spot yet.
2) Colorado State- Wins over UCSB and impressive win over Colorado College
3) Michigan- Opening loss to BYU but rebounded to beat both UCSD and UCSB by comfortable margins
4) UCSB - Close losses to both CSU and Michigan and win over UCSD, played #2 and #3 can't fault them too much for the L, hurts though that they were at home
5) Colorado - Beat Colorado College in scrimage, won Big XII Tournament (played whole roster), not so much as impressive but more so than other teams.
6) FSU - Winning but really haven't played anybody yet
7) Oregon - Winning but scary game with Simon Frasier
UCSD - Close losses to both Michigan and Sonoma State
9) BYU - Win against UCSB but just too many losses too soon to lesser teams
10) Lindenwood - Winning but not really playing anyone

UCSB & UCSD have not played yet. BYU lost to UCSB. BYU has a win against Michigan.

I think it's more accurate (and far more important) to follow the overall point totals from poll to poll versus poll positions.

Interesting observation Sonny...
several teams lost points but moved up in the rankings.

For as difficult as that poll was, I think the collective group came up with a pretty accurate poll for the amount of games played. The only team I would have more than a spot or two where they ended up was Cal Poly. They beat everyone 9 and below (including 3 quality ranked wins) and lost to 5 and 8. Maybe they shouldn't be ranked 8.5 but 14 may be little low given their results so far. Lot of great games coming up all over the country though. So every team has time to earn rankings. Can't wait to see how this season shakes out. I don't think there will be any gimme games in Dallas this year.

No offense to the program, but BYU should not even be in the top ten. Too many losses. Period. No matter who they were to.
Michigan, UCSB, and FSU are all interchangable (they are close in pts. anyway).
Maybe an Arizona/VT switch.
Overall a pretty good poll, as Sonny said looking at the point totals is more revealing than the rankings. I still feel that people are hesitant to play around with rankings of the traditional "top teams" in the MDIA leaving out lot of potentially great programs.
But if we couldn't gripe and complain about it, no one would care about the poll anyway ; ) Thank you to the pollsters for your time.
