At least the wingnuts in Berkeley are honest enough to stipulate they don't support the troops OR the mission.

Ok, so the parking space is too too much.

However, at Whitman, and at other schools, there are rules stipulating that only equal-oppurtunity employers are allowed to recruit on campus. This goes for the military as well.

As soon as our armed forces change their chauvinistic (and bigoted, and outdated) recruiting standards, then they will be welcome in the socially progressive world.

Oh, and for the record, I support the troops. My car doesn't (no yellow ribbon sticker of patriotic fervor) but I do.

This reeks of a personal agenda + vendetta rather than enforcement of a discrimination code.

To say that this is about the military's stance on homosexuals serving is ridiculous. Code Pink's mission statement reads:

No where is any mention given to homosexuality in any shape or form. To make this about homosexuals serving is an attempt to lend some sort of legitimacy to what is at its core a despicable decision by the city of Berkley. Disrespecting those who keep us safe...how noble.

Not surprisingly, the U.S. Marines will not be backing down.

The Marine official, speaking with FOX News on Friday, said Marine Commandant Gen. James Conway scoffed at the news, but there are no plans for to protest the City Council's decisions. There are definitely no plans to move the recruiting station either.

"To actually put something into law that encourages the disruption of a federal office is ridiculous. They are not going to kick a federal office out of its rightful place there, and this is not going to discourage those young patriots who want to be Marines," the official said.

Code Pink has the right to their views and the Marines have the right to recruit anywhere they please. This activity is harassment, plain and simple, and it is made all the more egregious now that it has the sanction of the Berkley City Council. Shame on them.

We live in a society where the rights of sll are supposed to be protected. That the city council genuflected in the direction of due process just makes this somewhat legitimized in the eyes of some. My guess is that the Marines will not skip a beat, and will continue to fight and die for the rights and freedoms of even those who hate them.

Actually, he said that they were responsible for their lot in life, and that the government shouldn't worry about it. Some of what Billo says actually makes sense, but alot of what he says is just ludicrous. He is not smart enough to admit when he is wrong. I watch him for pure entertainment value, but I watch Redeye for the real news stories.

Maybe because BOR is merely a commentator without any law-making ability. (Unlike the folks on the Berkeley City Council).

Oaks, unfortunately I'm still waiting for the producers to respond to my resume and cover letter. I wanted to be one of those guys who ambushes a judge or sheriff in their garage for allowing pedophiles or murderous illegal aliens to go free. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

If memory serves, O'Reilly wasn't saying there were no homeless vets, he was just responding to the pathologically dimwitted John Edwards and his claim that there were 200,000 vets "living under bridges" because our government doesn't care about them.

Getting back on topic, it appears the wingnuts were coaxed back to reality because a threat to eliminate federal funding for the city, as well as UC Berkeley, was brought up it congress. Nothing makes a liberal's colon clench harder than the possibility of losing a handout.

A week after blasting the Marines as "unwelcome intruders" in Berkeley, two City Council members want the city to back off the declaration that ignited the wrath of the nation's right wing and inspired a Republican senator to try to sever Berkeley's federal funding.

I guess supporting the US Marines is now an act of anger or vengeance only undertaken by crazy nationalist Republicans...or so says the San Francisco Chronicle. Everyone in this country wasn't upset by this blatant disrespect to our Armed Forces? Only the "right wing"? Really???
