I can't believe the TSA managed to get one past an airport's top notch security task force.

The TSA and every airport since 911 have failed these types of "progressive" security tests. First off, this type of information should not be made public! It should be disseminated nationally through the proper channels and response training should be updated.
The TSA very quietly reported that you could start carrying lighters again with a quick update on their site. They understood that only hard core travelers would be checking for these types of updates. Even though improvised devices using lighters for ignition have a much higher chance of happening. However, things such as this are made out to be a huge deal.
