2008 BCS & Bowl Game Discussion

Here are your BCS games:

National Championship (New Orleans): #1 Ohio State Buckeyes vs. #2 Louisiana State Tigers

Orange Bowl: Virginia Tech Hokies vs. Kansas Jayhawks

Fiesta Bowl: Oklahoma Sooners vs. West Virginia Mountaineers

Rose Bowl: Southern Cal Trojans vs. Illinois Fighting Illini

Sugar Bowl: Hawai'i Warriors vs. Georgia Bulldogs

Hawai'i gets in, LSU and OSU get title shot, Missouri out in the cold. I kind of like these games, hardest call is Kansas getting in over Missouri, but that's the way it fell. I think that the BCS got it right (even though I am not a proponent).

The BCS 2008 sponsored by Who Cares?

The Sugar, Rose, and Orange bowl look like homecoming weekend scheduling for the SEC, Pac 10, and ACC.

Any presidential candidate that is willing to committ to changing the BCS to a playoff will get my vote no matter what their stance is on any other topic!

What else would you expect them to be? they could care less about the games as long as they get butts in the seats and it makes money. The quality of the game really means nothing to them. Of course they are going to pick local talent. the BCS sucks

I know many will crap on the BCS for taking Kansas over Mizzou and Illinois over whoever but it really is not the BCS' fault. Blame the Orange Bowl and the Rose Bowl for selecting those teams. The BCS only really selects the title game.

I will say Mizzou got slightly shafted by the BCS since only two teams from a conference can play in a BCS Bowl but the bowl games pick the teams.

This isn't exactly true...If it were wouldn't the Rose Bowl picked USC vs Michigan, because Michigan would fill more seats, and Georgia vs FSU for example, and better yet, Virginia Tech vs Notre Dame. If the Bowls were allowed to pick whoever they want, they'd pick teams with huge followings. They couldn't because the BCS rankings dictate certain selections have to be made.

Lets just hope that Oregon can match their helmets, jerseys, and pants for the BCS bowl game. the combo they had against OSU was atrocious. the black/white shoulder is terrible, but the yellow chest with green waist and underarms dont work. but the worst is the gold helmet that doesnt even fit into the color scheme anywhere. i was so confused.
Oregon St. wasnt much better with all the color going on in those uniforms between white, black, and orange......talk about dizzy.

then you put all that against the mulit-colored dark green/light green field and it looked like a kindergarten art project. Theyve been smoking so much of that other green up there that they cant see straight.

Wait, are you telling me that Notre Dame did not get a bowl bid? Seriously?

Ah this proves that ND is no long relevant in college football.

Come on LSU! OSU fears the SEC! OSU has never defeated a SEC opponent in a bowl:

1977/78 Sugar— Alabama 35, Ohio State 6
1989/90 Outback— Auburn 31, Ohio State 14
1992/93 Citrus— Georgia 21, Ohio State 14
1994/95 Citrus— Alabama 24, Ohio State 17
1995/96 Citrus— Tennessee 20, Ohio State 14
2000/01 Outback— South Carolina 24, Ohio State 7
2001/02 Outback— South Carolina 31, Ohio State 28
2006/07 BCS Championship— Florida 41, Ohio State 14

Go on make all the excuses you want about Cooper has most of those loses but after getting housed last year by Florida, I hope that the chip is not too much to bare. If America's Team can hang 14 on the Kitties, OSU has to be able to score more, right? Maybe even win?

My favorite "stat" for this college season. Based on the AP Poll, there has been 24 different teams featured in the Top 10 this year and 17 different teams ranked in the Top 5 at some point this year.

Such a crazy season.

Bring on the bowls.

Kansas getting a BCS game over Missouri is ridiculous. Missouri is ranked 2 spots higher on the final BCS poll and lost to Oklahoma twice, whereas the only decent team Kansas played was Missouri who kicked their ass.

They played 3 teams going to BCS games (Illinois, Kansas, Oklahoma) and beat 2 of them. Kansas played 1 decent team all year, and lost. Kansas had what, the 2nd easiest schedule in the nation in front of Hawaii? Maybe next year they shouldn't play Missouri so they can go undefeated too. Missouri had the 3rd hardest strength of schedule rank in the nation, and lost 1 game...and gets screwed. Missouri had a higher BCS rank than 5 other BCS Bowl teams (USC, Kansas, WVU, Hawaii and Illinois).

My big question is....how did Illinois get a BCS game? I understand the whole "the Rose Bowl takes a Big 10 team, unless it's playing for the natl championship, then it has the option". That's great and all. But they picked the 3rd place team from the Big Ten. Yes UGA is the 3rd place team from the SEC, but look at their ranking. Illinois was 6-2 in conference, so was Michigan. Michigan beat Illinois. Michigan lost to Ohio State and Wisconsin. Illinois lost to Iowa and Michigan. I guess the Rose Bowl wants a guaranteed victory for USC. I don't like Michigan...but what the hell? How about Missouri and USC?

The Hawaii/UGA matchup is the most glorious thing ever. If UGA wins, it shows that Hawaii is a sub-par team at best, playing a softball schedule. If Hawaii fans win...UGA fans are sad and cry. Glorious.

Hawaii does nothing but throw the ball....I wonder if Mark Richt can figure out a way to stop the pass. Hmm. I wonder if UGA has speed? Hmm. I wonder if UGA's safeties and linebackers are some of the hardest hitting in college football. But I am sure the WAC has a pass rush similar to Georgia's, so Hawaii is already prepared for quality athletes with a hard in conference...and out of conference schedule. Most definitely. And it's not like UGA is an incredible rushing team that plays in the SEC, against SEC defense.

I think Hawaii's victory over the worst team in the PAC 10 showed all of you that Hawaii is a good team. You all will see that Hawaii deserves this game even though they've played teams no harder than a good high school teams schedule and/or my flag football team's schedule since we went undefeated and since we went undefeated...WE in fact should play Hawaii for the 'ship this year, not LSU/Ohio State.

Spread the word.

Hawaii (2007 WAC champions) vs Da Baby Eataz (2007 Gwinnett Silverbacks Center Flag Football Champions) for the BCS national championship.

We're both undefeated and strength of schedule doesn't matter.

So there.

Can you please include tOSU when talking about an easy schedule from now on. I would say it was as easy as Kansas and Hawaii. Don't give me all this Big 10 crap, cause that conference was horrible this year. They were clearly the worst BCS conf. this year (cue Big East talk), yet they didn't go undefeated. I don't know that Hawaii wouldn't have gone undefeated with that schedule.
