Awesome. Just awesome.
The Hawks already play to completely empty sections of Phillips Arena. After they get through the hoopla of "opening day," my prediction is that the '08 SELC tournament will have more paid attendance with virtually NO local media coverage then one of their regular season WNBA Atlanta games.
I can't wait to see the announced attendance figures versus the actual fannies in the seats. I may go down there with a camera this summer to take a look.

Sonny does this honestly surprise you?
Well with the water shortage, the urban sprawl, 285/any-interstate-at-any-time, the removal of Buckhead and the upcoming negative effects of which on the Virginia Highlands, etc etc etc...the city decided that the only logical solution to our problems is to add the WNBA.
Because let's face it, they got next.

From Norman Chad's column at
http://tinyurl.com/38ra8p :
Q. After Rebekkah Brunson of the WNBA Sacramento Monarchs was arrested on DUI charges, she apologized to her fans. Do you think she did this individually? (Joe McCann; Pittsburgh)
A. Pay this fella on the sly, Shirley -- don't want to get WNBA types stirred up.

Just another reason for Atlanta to claim they are a great sports town!
I cannot wait to spend Thanksgiving in the ATL. That Colts-Falcons match-up looks better and better every day. Can I get an AK, T.I.?

Could this team draw larger crowds than the Hawks?

Guess these guys haven't heard that the WNBA is coming.
One of my favorite thoughts about the WNBA, and I think this is a Sports Guy bit, is to ask the residents of a city which they would rather have; a WNBA championship or $5?
