Missing Student Tallahassee

Story:

A student in Tallahassee went missing for a week. His face was in the new paper and on TV. His friends placed fliers of him all over the city. The police said they were looking for him, right?

Well, it turns out that after a week of being a missing person the kid was released from Leon Co. Jail where he was booked for disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. It seemed that on Saturday, a full 6 days after the kid went missing one of the police officers saw his picture on a flier at the football game and realized that the kid had been booked under the wrong name.

It really makes you think when cops say that they are trained to remember details.

I see it a little differently...isn't the real lesson here that you shouldn't give police a false name after setting fire to a convenience store? This punk caused a lot of pain and anguish for his family, not to mention all of his friends and the community, and I don't hold the LCSD responsible at all. He could have told the truth at any time and saved everyone a lot of trouble but instead chose to remain silent because he is a coward, afraid to take responsibility for his actions. And remember, he never did actually come forward and give police his real name...if anything, shouldn't he be catching ANOTHER charge?

I also read somewhere, couldn't find the link, that he may have been high on crack at the time of his arrest.

Giacomin's real identity was determined Monday morning. He was being held in the jail awaiting a psychological assessment ordered by a judge following his arrest, according to Teresa Broxton, pre-trial release supervisor....

According to the arrest report, here is what happened: A man had started a fire at the Shell Food Store, 6595 Capital Circle S.E. He resisted arrest while firefighters and deputies tried to detain him.

The man told deputies his name was Andrew Hustle, and gave a fake Social Security number and date of birth. He didn't list an address.

Though the charges were misdemeanors, Giacomin was not released from jail because "he was unable to provide contacts or ties to the community," Broxton said.

“People many times give fake names when booked into the jail because of outstanding warrants and more serious charges,” said Sgt. Chris Chase, spokesman for the Sheriff's Office.

True story, my friend was arrested for a pretty small fight in Fells Point (there's a real shocker huh?) and placed in central booking. Central Booking is a processing center that the city of Baltimore created to increase the speed of the booking process. You are not labeled by name, but by bar code (cousin was a bail bondsmen for years). He was lost in the system and they couldn't find him for close to two weeks. Central Booking has 8 levels and the levels are tiered by severity of action starting from the bottom moving to the top. Nice to be lost on the 7th when you should have been out the next morning. This type of stuff happens all of the time. Just like the Duke cop that was known to throw students in the clink with murders and serious offenders not out of limited space, but to "teach these rich white kids a lesson".

I actually didn't know as much of the story as stryker. I just knew from what people told me. I did hear some bad stuff about the kid but nothing this bad. I actually feel bad for feeling bad for him.
