So...I know nothing aboutcomputers, and I know there are a lot of guys on here that do...so here goes.
This morning when you turn the computer on it goes to a blue screen that tells me that some of the hardware was not installed properly and restart the computer in Safe Mode. When I restart and try to go into Safe Mode, it eventually goes back to the same blue screen.
The computer worked fine last night, but there was a lot of lightning last night.
Am I screwed?

Does it start clicking when you turn it on? If so, it is probably your hard drive. Happened to me. I had to get a new hard drive then eventually got a new computer.

Can I somehow recover that data on the existing hard drive?

I took it to a small computer shop, and they saved all of my pictures and music somehow. But Comp USA said they couldn't. So if someone says they can't, I would try around a bit before giving up.
I don't have the most computer knowledge, but I replied because i think the same thing happened to me.

your computer saves info from the last 4/5 days. what you may be able to do is go back a couple of days to recover those settings. review the help file on your recovery disk for more info. (i have to look it up every time it happens to me)

Im your guy....shoot me a PM, I work in Data Recovery and can help you out with this....
If its a physical issue, we can still get to the data...lightning can cause some nasty damage to the PCB boards and the internal chip sets on drives.
