In honor of March Madness, we at Drivl thought we would compile a list of the worst Division I college mascots and present them in an easily digestible list for your viewing pleasure. Each entry was researched carefully (meaning not at all) and judged on a variety of criteria, such as ugliness, randomness of mascot choice, cheapness of costume, and the all-important creepiness factor. We hereby present you, in descending order, our pick of the 25 Worst College Mascots currently enjoying D-I status:

I was surprised to see we didn't make that list. The Idaho mascot looks like someone who has to go door to door with his parole officer every time he moves into a new neighborhood.

i am so glad lil red made that list. I cannot stand that thing. He is by far the worst mascot in the big 12, and that includes K-States football player with a tail and cat head that trys to spell K S U with its body. I said try cause it looks nothing like it.

It is the Oles, and it technically is not the official mascot of St. Olaf. The official mascot of St. Olaf is the Lion. It is the object used to represent St. Olaf. Oles is the nickname given to St. Olaf students and the athletic teams. St. Olaf teams through the years have used the Vikings, Lions, and Oles. There is a longer story on why we are the Oles now, but I think we can avoid that story.

Good find E.

I didn't realize that some of those schools actually had mascots.

Some of my favs:

The Blue Blob looks like what an alcoholic single dad would craft for his son for a Halloween or school pageant costume. "Look son, it's the Cookie Monster!" No, it's not. It's the personification of a failed father.

The really freaky mascots are the ones that are (sort of) supposed to be people, and the Commodore is no exception. His head is suffering from an unfortunate case of gigantism, and he's all tranny'd out with a feather, eyeliner, and satin stripes. He manges to look creepy and FABulous at the same time.

If I'm not mistaken, Central Michigan University is the only NCAA team to not have a mascot.

Hoya means "what." Coupled with saxa, as is "hoya saxa" it means "What rocks." Both words come from latin.
