So I just saw Jim Rome is burning and at the end of the segment he discusses the UCSB NCAA Soccer championship and how much he hates soccer. Rome explicitely states that he wishes it could have been any other sport, including lacrosse. Someone should write him a note about how many UCSB has won in lacrosse.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but hasn't UCSB won two or three MCLA titles?

Its odd that he would say that about his old school...

From Jim Rome's Wikipedia page:

Saw a portion of the UCSB/UCLA final from FRIGID St. Louis over the weekend on the tube. Game time temps from the Lou were in the teens with windchill while back in Santa Barbara the temp was in the mid 70's.

Anyone know what facility they played at in St. Louis?

I just know that it was sold out.

And Sonny as far as the FAQ's go, I tried to check the UCSB website but it was down. Couldn't find it on the WCLL website either. I gave up.

What facility was it held at? It didn't look like the A-B Soccer Park.

It wasn't. I think it was held more downtown. Maybe Jack Cribbin can comment on it, he tried to find tickets for it.

So did they tear down the lacrosse goal posts when then won the MCLA title in 2004 and 2005?

Good stuff!!

P.S. Curious - Did UCSB ever have a football team? If so, when/why was it disbanded?

UCSB is one of several California-based universities to discontinue their division 1 football programs, which it did in 1972. That final season, in an attempt to make enough money to keep the program going, the Gauchos had road games at traditional powers Tennessee and Washington, where they were soundly beaten. UCSB brought back football as a non-scholarship division II sport in the late 80s, but discontinued the sport again after 1991 when the NCAA ruled that schools that competed in division 1 in all other sports could not "drop down" to division II or III for football only. The stadium, Harder Stadium, is still used for the UCSB soccer teams.

Tourney was held on SLU's campus. Not sure if it showed on tv or not, but that field is immaculate! Needless to say in I was at SLU we didn't get to touch it...I pretty sure if we tried we would have been shot.

Did the Vols win in '72? God bless the Gauchos for making that trip to Knox Vegas.

Harder Stadium looks great and very scenic in this pictures. I'm sure football games in there were fun:
