Geez, some people are so touchy! I guess they missed the picture of the Jamaican Bobsled team Halloween costume.

Black face is never funny. It just isn't.

Who would have thought that all you had to do to have classes cancelled was wear a costume? I mean, it's not like they dressed up as Palestinian suicide bombers and reenacted executing people while reciting passages of the Koran or anything...that only happens in the ultra sensitive Ivy League.

Is it funny when Dave Chappele paints himself white and is clearly mocking white people? I think so.

It's racist to paint your face black. It's not racist to paint your face white. I could go off on this for days...but...we have to walk on eggshells

When my cousin was 7 he was crazy about basketball and his favorite player Shaq. So on that halloween he dressed in his jersey and painted himself black. So according to these people my cousin was a racist at the age of 7?

Ridiculous

White people did oppress black people for hundreds of years, not only in America but by Europeans in North Africa too. It's a deep hurt, so just keep walking lightly on those eggshells. It will get better someday.

This statement really bothers me, not just from you, but in general. I have heard this comment come up before and I really don't get it. I am not the one that oppressed the people and I never would. What happened was clearly wrong and stupid, but it wasn't me or just about everyone I know. To try and keep bringing that back up is stupid and puts everyone a step back instead of going forward. Thing will never change if you can't get over it and move on. It was wrong, but it is over, and in all reality, these black people are not the ones that were oppressed either. That comment is just a weak excuse in my opinion.

So? I posted that link to show that "it's not over" really. Who cares if the case was resolved. Are you not outraged that this type of behavior occurs in the greatest country in the world? It's very easy for people to say "we need to move on", but you would not be saying that if you were black. The ignorance of some people boggles the mind.

Need I remind you what Trent Lott said 4 years ago?

You didnt oppress people, I didn't oppress people, the black guy my age maybe wasn't oppressed. The fact is there is a culture of racism that hasn't gone away yet. Things like black face just awaken memories of that culture. It is easy to say get over it, but it is not that easy and it may take a few more generations before we all can just move on.

One guy posting an anuthorized sign up for a few hours does not equate to a "culture of racism."

Yes it does make me mad that there are people that are out there that are still ignorant and harbor racist tendancies. But you really think you are going to run around and change their minds? They are entitled to their opinion and I doubt they are going to change. Do I think they are complete morons and wrong? Yes I do, but I bet they could really care what you or I have to say. The point is that the situation is just perpetuated and continues to have ill will when issues from the way way past are brought up again. Do not come at me and say well since my great great great great great grandfather was oppressed. . . Yes what happened at Whitman wasn't right and that specific issue should be dealt with at the time. I just get heated when people try and bring up stuff that didn't even happen to them specifically.

It is all in the context of what happened. I agree with KnoxVegas though. I do not think that blackface is ever funny. Wether it should or should not be is a moot point. The fact is that it does upset people.

I will not argue wether or not wearing a Hitler costume should or should not upset people, I just accept that it does. To me, it is the same thing with blackface.
