I'm trying to figure out a way that would let me receive phone calls electronically through email.

Here is what I'm trying to accomplish: I want to enable web site fans to call into the show from a land line, cell phone, or VOIP phone (Skype, Google Talk, etc.) AND record a question/comment that I (or other MCLA personalities) could answer in a future audio podcast. I could then import the audio (WAV) file into my audio editing program.

Think of it as a "Man on the Street" interview or comment for future CollegeLAX podcasts.

Any ideas on how to accomplish this cheap or free?

Lets you save voicemails as an MP3, personalize your greeting, and even detect stress levels in the voice to see if they are lying. Probably lets you record calls too, which for your interviews might be an easier way to manage them depending on how you are doing it now. It works through Skype so you would need the latest version of that.

to add as well, Skype would be a great way to do this since the calls are free when made from Skype to Skype users and dirt cheap to call from Skype to any land line in the world. My wife uses Skype to call her friend in Australia and I think out the 6 or 7 hours she has used it has cost us about 6 Euros, whatever that equals in $US.

My employer uses avaya. We have our email set up so that if someone calls and leaves a message, we can either hear it using the phone or hit "send/receive" and it will transfer to our voicemail as a .lvp. I believe there is a codec that will allow the file to play in another media player.
