Farewell Red Auerbach

Postby Brent Burns on Sat Oct 28, 2006 9:51 pm

Just found out that Red Auerbach passed away today at age 89. You all know that as a coach, he led the Boston Celtics to 9 NBA titles in the 1950s and 1960s. He was known for his victory cigar.

I hadn't read today's paper yet - thanks for that news Brett. Certainly remember Red, but then I grew up in that era of Bill Russell, Bob Cousy, Tommy Heinsohn, and then the great Havlicek , KC and Sam Jones, Don Nelson, JoJo White. Later Bird, McHale, Dennis Johnson (the only black guy with freckles I've ever seen!), Parish and Cowans restored the glory.

Gravel-voiced Johnny Most, the announcer who created the mold for biggest homer ever!

We'll miss you and your cigars Red!
