It may have been better if UVA had done the same thing.

Looks like they are just rollin' with white helmets from the '69 season. Same Grey Poupon colored jerseys though.

1973 throwback jerseys. They said that Georgia Tech was not even in the ACC in 1973 but liked the look of the white helmets and orange jerseys.

I'm gonna suggest to Ken that the guys team wear their old '70s throwback jerseys for a game this season. Bucket helmets and all.
They even had a contest for best throwback fan at the game tonight. There really wasn't much else to pay attention to.

Georgia Tech: Left the SEC in 1964. In 1975, it became a founding member of the Metro Conference, (now Conference USA), competing there in all sports except football, in which it was independent. In 1978, Georgia Tech joined the Atlantic Coast Conference for all sports, where it has remained.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Southeastern_ConferenceWelcome to Throwback Thursday, when Bobby Dodd Stadium takes a trip back to 1970, to the days when Rock Perdoni was the All-America lineman, Eddie McAshan was the quarterback and Hutko was the junior right guard with the exceptionally large head.

I typed '69, the man from Omaha typed 1973. Using the the rules of the Showcase Showdown, I win. And since I was within five years, I win both Showcases! Please remember to have your pets spayed and neutered! This Bob Barker, signing off!

They were auctioning off the Throwback (White) Helmets after the game.
I thought the uniforms looked great, personally. (They had the black shoes to match, circa 1970!) Tech's colors are white and gold. And it's hard to match a gold jersey to a gold helmet. Some fans want GT to go to the white helmets permanently.

I agree on the helmets. Wish schools did this more.
When did GT stop wearing the navy jerseys?

Stopped wearing the navy blue around 1994. GT did win a recent MNC ('90) in the blue jerseys.
apparently, GT had made a special set of navy blue jerseys for this year and were planning to break them out for the home opener against Notre Dame. But a big money donor who is adamant about white & gold threatened to pull his $$$ if they wore them. Don't know if they will be used.

I love the white lids...the same way I loved it when BYU went back to the white helmets.
By the way...Calvin Johnson - GOOD, UVA football - BAD.

I like the gold lids, white jerseys, gold pants the best. I wish we could wear that EVERY game.
Calvin should be a top 5 NFL draft choice next year. He is a freak! It's hard to imagine him staying for his Senior year.

They grew on me as the night wore on. But the initial viewing was a bit of "shock and awe".
