College Football Week 3 Thread

Postby bste_lax on Mon Sep 11, 2006 5:51 pm

This weekend has way too many good games.

#6 LSU at #3 Auburn
#17 Miami at #12 Louisville
#11 Michigan at #2 Notre Dame
#15 Oklahoma at #18 Oregon
#7 Florida at #13 Tennessee
#19 Nebraska at #4 USC

I will also been in attendance for the Iowa-Iowa State game which should be interesting no matter what, but now throw in Drew Tate is listed day-to-day with tons of rumors flying around Iowa City from "he will be fine and play" to "he tore something in his side and will be out for a while".

But some good games this weekend.

My girlfriend's father is the head coach at iowa state, but i still can't stand those cyclones. Enjoy attending a nice iowa u. victory!

But seriously, how can one forget to add unranked wisconsin at home against unranked san diego state to the "good games" list??

You date McCarney's daughter? Doesn't she go to Iowa too? I remember they ran a story in the Daily Iowan about her last year and how she cheers against Iowa one game a year.

Texas Tech comes to Ft. Worth as the Horned Frogs of TCU put the longest winning streak in the nation on the line. Both teams are also ranked. Go Frogs!

This is the week that makes being a Vol fan so great. Each and every year, when the schedule comes out, fan across the land begin conversations over what the tough game will be. Will it be team A? Or maybe the game late in the season when your team and team X could be undefeated?

Well, at Tennessee that game is the Florida game. Pure and simple. Beat Florida and their is a chance for a successful season. Lose to Florida and we are playing for the Citrus Bowl and as Steve "I am really from Tennessee- Go Science Hill HS!!!"" Spurrier once said so eloquently put it, "You can't spell Citrus Bowl without U-T.". Never mind that at the time it was called the Florida Citrus bowl but I digress.

So around midnight Saturday night, I could be feeling the joy of beating FU for only the sixth time in 15 games. Again, Phil Fulmer with his gaudy .778 career winning percentage (130-37) is only 5-9 lifetime against the Gators. A full fourth of his career loses are to one school? Before Fulmer took the helm, America's Team lead the all-time series 14-7. Had it not been for Ron Zook, we would have only won three games versus FU in the Fulmer Era.

So enjoy the games this weekend. Hope your team wins. Most of you still have hope and that is a good thing. But for us all fans, this is our bowl game and it is only the third week of September. If we lose to Florida, it is expected. But then again, so is beating Florida every year with the talent that seems to be wasted in the Fulmer Era. Should we win, all credit should go to John Chavis (defensive coord) and David Cutcliffe (offensive coord). At this point, Fulmer should take a seat in the stand with the rest of the alumni and kick back.

And if you happen to be in Gainesville and the line is out the door at Chinee-Takee-Outee, just go across the street to the Two Ks.

Go Vols! Beat Florida!

They taught me that the Germans bombed Pearl Harbour and that there were WMDs in Iraq. Why let the facts get in the way of one's passion and truthiness?

The high school kids at our camp corrected one of the counselors after he gave the 'Germans bombed Pearl Harbor' speech as though he was a moron. What is the world coming too these days?

If anyone thinks Drew Tate is going to miss his final chance to beat Iowa State, I believe them to be sadly mistaken.

Really, USC is favored by 18.5 over my Huskers? I guess we'll see how all that goes. GO HUSKERS! Make it a competititve game against USC! (See, I'm realistic. I know they probably won't win, so I'm just hoping it remains close. Winning would just be a huge bonus.)

I 100% agree with this. The latest and my favorite rumor is that he hurt it this past July participating in the hay bale toss at the Solon Beef Days.

God bless the internet.

I don't know what this is but I'm intrigued...might there be meat on a stick or perhaps roast cow as far as the eye can see??? Basically I'm envisioning a place where Homer Simpson would be happy.

I just wanted to point out to my ex-brethren KnoxVegas that Tennessee is 3-2 vs. Florida in the last 5 years. Tennessee's record against Florida prior to the Fulmer era is a non-factor as Florida was a non-factor in the SEC prior to Spurrier. It is very typical that the few anti-Fulmer fans are quick to blame him for every loss, but refuse to give him credit for our victories. I realize once you reach a level of blind hatred, like KnoxVegas has for Fulmer, that no one can change their view. I just wanted to let the the rest of the country know that the twisted views of disenfranchised former Tennessee fans do not reflect the views of 99% of the Big Orange Nation.

Thank you for your time.
