A curious question for motorcycle enthusiasts

Just wondering what do the motorcycle enthusiasts think about air bags on motorcycles. I did not really read the story about that on Yahoo!, but I just saw a picture of a dummy buffered by an airbag.

What are the pros and cons of putting air bags in motorcycles?

Would that be necessary to do that?

Just had to add one more info: The one I saw at Yahoo! was a very short video made by a large German motorcycle club.

There are jackets that resemble water life jackets which inflate if an individual is flung from a motorcycle. I'd prefer that over airbags...

Get 'em to wear helmets first! That's the simplest and most effective form of protection for a highly vulnerable enthusiasm. If some want to ride without one, so be it, as long as they sign off and say that the state won't be responsible for their long-term care.
A good friend is an orthopedic surgeon, who has to put the pieces back together on those weekend nights. He just shakes his head when he sees a motorcycle zip by. It's not just that you're more exposed than in a car, but they are often piloted by invincible-feeling youths who drive them very recklessly. If they're lucky, they then get to drive one of those high-powered wheelchairs with the joystick controller.
