Actually, McDonald's is currently selling what are known as "Stealth Fries". They are fried in a new type of oil that has substantially less fat (including zero trans fat), but they are not going to tell the general public because people will complain that the fries are different (Burger King had this problem about 6-8 years ago).

No one has noticed yet. And no, I'm not making this up.

My girlfriend informed me while we were grocery shopping the other day that zero trans fat does not mean that there is no trans fat. Apperently per label guidelines as long as the product has less than 1g of trans fat (.9g or less) then it is ok to list it as zero trans fat. It's true. Companies that produce food have entire groups within their business that lobby the FDA to change guidelines, etc. I know because my wife's father does this job for Hormel. He has recently had lengthy discussions about what you can do to sandwich meat and still use the "organic" label.

What a boring job...

The bigger question is--does Hormel actually make or use anything that can be called meat?

Nothing against your FIL, but we are talking about a company that puts beans and stuff in a can and calls it chili.

They also make sandwich meat, pepperoni, hot dogs, etc. if Im not mistaken.

I'm not sure what they do over at Hormel. But I did receive a fascinating tour of Research and Development (with Hormel hard hat included). Seemed like it was all on the up and up...
