After being amazed at the dominating performance by Floyd Landis in getting back in contention at the TdF, it was little disappointing, but not surprising, to see that he was likely doping for that leg, at least. Supposedly the test with the positive result was taken after that day.
Given the huge swath of riders that were banned before the race (Ullrich, Basso, etc.) and these results, cycling has a bit of an image problem.

I guess that officially makes cycling a big time sport now that it's "stars" personal drug habits are of media interest, just like football and baseball.

A high test/epitest from doping does not make any sense. 25 years ago maybe but it's been done in the past as far a cycling goes.

A doping violation on Landis would be more credible if it was EPO (time trial) or something to stave off lactic acid production (TT & HC climbs) but testostorone isn't going to do anything for a cyclist that fast. If he was juicing with testo, then it should have tested positive in his pre-race samples.

My guess is that whatever his Orthopod has him on for his hip caused the positive or elevated test/epitest ratio. Just a guess though.

Cycling has a very long and storied history with doping. Six day racers were usually on amphetamines and in the TdF, sogineurs used to deliver drug cocktails during various parts of stages. Heck, I think at one time nicotine was tried as I've seen a picture of Jacques Anquitil[sp] with a butt haning out of his mouth on one of the HC climbs in the alps.

I just learned that Floyd came from a Mennonite family. That was what I learned about him in the most recent issue of People magazine.
