WASHINGTON (AP) -- If you think keeping fit is merely mind over matter, Lester Clancy has an invention for you -- a cordless jump-rope.

That's right, a jump-rope minus the rope. All that's left is two handles, so you jump over the pretend rope. Or if you are truly lazy, you can pretend to jump over the pretend rope

Why didn't I think of this...there goes my fortune!

Of course, this guy would not be able to convince the American Inventor judges- Doug Hall, Peter Jones, Ed Evangelista, and Mary Lou that his idea would work. I can imagine their comments about that silly idea, for I can not believe it is patented.

You can patent just about anything as long as it is a unique idea. The fact that there are weights in the handles simulating a rope seems like the only reason he would be able to patent it.

He says that they could be used in prisons where an actual rope is a hazard, but looking at the pictures, it looks like it could be used as a pretty efficient weapon if the need arose. Easy to hold, weighted on one end, perfect for taking out an enemy.
