Apparently he is a decent baseball player at some small school.

That whole thing completly changed the series. The momentumum swung and that was it.

That kid is a shinning example of why the Yankees are a scourge on society as a whole. Not since Dan Marino screwed Ray Finkel in Super Bowl XIX has there been a greater sports tragedy. To reward that kid for committing fraud, for breaking the rules of baseball, is unAmerican. Guiliani had Jeffery Maier Day in NYC shortly after the event. Everyone is currently on Bonds for alleged steroid use in baseball. Where were you when this kid reached into play to steal the series from Baltimore? Unlike Bonds, there is actual video and audio to prove that Maier did this. Rich Garcia is also a willing accomplice to this crime against humanity, after the fact. Mr. Maier is the true villain in this story.

I saw this piece the other day when it ran on SportsCenter (I was in the hotel and there was nothing left to watch, ok. Sue me!) Those sychophants in Bristol, gleefully touted the hit record he set. I fumed and thought of poor Tony Tarasco. Tony Tarasco is a shell of his former self. In the blink of an eye, a 12-year old kid dashed the dreams and hopes of Charm City's fans. The O's were never quite the same and are still trying to dig out of the emotional hole that day left. I dream of that day, when I finally meet Jeffery. His eyes will meet mine and I will coolly reply "Unleaded and check the tires while your at it, son."

If the Red Sox can recover from Game 6, then I too believe that Orioles fans everywhere can get over this. Someday, possibly...

Tarasco should have said to himself, "What would Gary "BALCO" Sheffield do?" and then jump into the stands to pummel the boy.

I remember watching this game live on TV and coming to the realization that the Yankees and their fans are evil.

The kid was 12 years old, and reached out to catch the ball. He did what many, many fans have done. Garcia blew the call, and because it happened in a playoff game, the whole thing was magnified.

Do you really think he did it to steal the series? He just did what everyone else (including hometown fans in Chicago) would do.

Of course, I think he did it on purpose. I got relatives in Jersey and they are shifty, so what make this kid any different? Ok, I will indict the parent's of Maier as well. They did not raise their child to obviously respect the game of baseball. By doing so, they are not, nor is their child patriotic, since baseball is the national pastime. They should be deported.

As sure as Bartman woke up that morning in Chicago, with the express purpose of hatching his fiendish plot to keep the Cubs out of the WS, I believe that Jeffrey Maier is guilty and embodies everything that is wrong with society today.

Bill Buckner is innocent! Calvin Schiraldi is the real culprit! Born and raised in the DC-area. I grew up an O's fan and will die an Oriole's fan. If you are implying that I am a Cubs fan, you are sadly mistaken. Nor do I enjoy beating my head against he wall, er paying for tickets to see a mediocre at best baseball team, year in, year out. Hey Cubs fans, I am happy that I lived long enough to see a NL team compete for the WS in a game played in Chicago.

I too can attest to the fact that people from Jersey are shifty at best!

The kid was 12 years old, excited, and at a playoff baseball game. I seriously doubt anyone rooting for any team wouldn't do the same thing. Hell, I still reach for hit balls at minor league games and don't always take the time to consider the results of my actions. Don't get me wrong, I cannot stand the Yank's, and am first and foremost (and always will be) a Brewer fan. You can't think "mediocre" without thinking about the Crew.

It was the O's who lost the series with the Yanks, not the O's losing to Jeffrey Maier. And it was 10 years ago. The same way it was the Cubs who lost their series, not Bartman losing it for the Cubs.

I'm just a little amazed that the Jeffrey Maier incident is rehashed 10 years after the fact. It's not the Yankees, it's not the fans. That was just a bad call by the official which may or may not have won the series for the Yankees. We might as well be talking about Mookie's single in '86.

By the way for those of you that don't know, Mookie Wilson isn't only Preston Wilson's uncle, but he's also his step-father. Weird, huh?
