McDonald ads

Postby Brent Burns on Sat Apr 15, 2006 10:16 pm

I am still puzzled why McDonald ad has this running where you see this guy with orange sneakers walking up to three guys at a table in a McDonald's ad. There was a flashback to where this guy with those sneaks was carried above. The camera shows this guy walking away from those guys and flashing a "I Love You" sign. What is the purpose of that guy flashing that sign which may mean something else?

Second, McDonalds's is running a new ad which ends with a "I'm lovin' it" ad and then shows something related to the mornings with help for morning impaired. I know that does not solicit a lot of guffawing from all of us, but just sort of a cutesy/cheesy ad.

Im pretty sure if I remember it correctly it is also used as a universal rock symbol. Also, it is also known as "the horns". Here is an example of "throwing up the horns" over Ozzy Osbourne's star.

This concludes our lesson on rock and roll for the culturally inept. :D

That's the problem when you have a clash of cultures - those that are adept at American Sign Language and those that have appropriated hand signs for "throwing down the horns" and "the shocker", among others. :)

To Dan Reeves, I am proud to be culturally inept because I do not care for any kind of music even including classical and church music.

Those ads have to be better than the current crop of Burger King ads--the one with the King in bed just creeps me out! :P

They should go back to their "Have it your way" campaign.

theres nothing wrong with those. Right now I have chopain in my cd player for studying. Quite relaxing and enjoyable. I also have boccelli on my play list (Con Ti Partiro, everyone should check it out). Im sure there are some little quirks from some of your interests that i wouldnt understand.

That is true as all of us have our own quirks. Growing up deaf, I never cared nor understood music. It is just foreign to me, yet it is relaxing and wonderful for you. Keep enjoying what you listen to. I just have to get used to my teenager son who enjoys listening to rap. He would ask me about some of those guys, and I tell him that I have no foggiest idea of who they are anyway. The only way I would tell him is to lower his music because I am more concerned about the safety of his hearing when he gets older. I would gently remind him to protect his ears, so he can get to enjoy music when he gets older.

which brings up an interesting point. is there a sign language equivalent to the shocker in the same way that the horns match up with love?
and maybe the guys in the mcdonalds commercial were all ms-13 gang members as that is their sign as well... just throwin out ideas...

I am not sure of an equivalent sign in ASL with the shocker sign. I am really way behind y'all anyway, but I did a quick internet search and found this site: http://www.slangcity.com/ask_ac.htm I recently sent an email correspondence with a guy living in Washington, D.C. because I know that he may have some information about that.
