Super Tornado

As I was falling asleep last night I watched this thing on what would happen if a Super Tornado hit a city. Of course that city was DALLAS, TEXAS. It showed pretty much that Dallas would be destroyed. Now I am not so sure if I would rather have the cold of MN than a Super Tornado in Dallas. When is Tornado season or does it not really matter?

Since today is the first day of spring, the tornado season is already here. Last night, we received Tornado Watches, but nothing happened.

We have to remember that tornadoes can happen at anytime, be it winter, spring, summer or fall.

Did a quick research and found that the State of Oregon reported 2 tornadoes in 2001 and two in 2002. For both years, Texas reported 112 and 123 tornadoes.

A couple of years back while at the tourney in St. Louis, we had a tornado warning and everyone had to evacuate their hotel room. You could see the black mass in the distance, but it veered off and nothing happened except for torrential rain & hail and eventually lightning. Fond memories of the LOO!

I said as I was falling asleep, it was after a long hard day of studying... Actually it really wasn't, but I can pretend. I will keep you all posted on how I do on my finals since you seem so interested :P

We get quite a few of them down here. I would say that we get a few in the Baton Rouge metro area a year. And somebody said that South Louisiana is prone to Hurricanes as well, but who knows for sure....could just be a rumor.

Seriously though, since Katrina, South Louisiana has seen 2 earthquakes....thats right....earthquakes. One was like a 3.2 and the other was like 6.4 but it was a few miles offshore, so I dont think anyone felt it.....But come on....Louisiana....earthquakes.....havent we seen enough natural disasters.

**Little sidenote....the gulf is currently 13 degrees in some places warmer than it was last year.....Should be a hell of a hurricane season

Ft. Worth got hit with a tornado a few years ago. If people think that the weather is going to be nice in Dallas then I have some major news for you. Spring time in Dallas is scary. Spring storms in Dallas are extremely dangerous. The tornados don't scare me, but the straight line winds and some of the other features do. These storms can come up quickly and at times with no warning. On a side note, did anyone see the flooding in Dallas from this weekend?

Speaking of flooding in the Big D, I met with a parent with her son when they were touring TSTC today. I asked about the flooding, and she said from where they live, they had 11 inches of rain. There were a lot of flooding, but today most of the flooded area quickly receded. Most of the flooding came from the creeks, rivers and ditches.

Not to scare anyone, the best time to really view this kind of weather is driving on I-35 at night where you can see a lot of lightning on the horizon. Texole is correct about straight line winds. That is why every year, there are "Tracking the Weather" meetings in different cities for people to become aware of the spring-time and summer-time weather in Texas. Our local TV weather people are usually invited to explain to kids about tornados. Like their counterparts living in Cali who grew up doing earthquake drills, those living in the Tornado Alley do the tornado drills.

Anyway, I have a feeling that we should be all right when the USLIA National Championships come around in May. Shall we check the Farmer's Almanac??? You can check that out at http://www.almanac.com

I remember that... well, actually I remember hearing about it since I slept through it. You'd think that if the warning was that serious, they'd make sure people were out.

Well it's a good thing that Plano is probably the best cookie-cutter, master planned city in the country, with quite exceptional infrastructure and facilities. Basically, flooding is out of the question (knock on wood).

Hopefully there is a contingency plan to move the games to one of the many indoor facilities in the area, should the worst happen.

I gotta disagree with TexOle. May in Dallas is usually quite mild. But, and I'm sure as TexOle knows very well, if you don't like the weather in Dallas just wait 5 minutes. Forecasters can't even tell you what yesterday's weather was.

No worries fellas.
