Your Name Sucks

Wow, did this name change fast. I don't have a problem with changing the name since the original name and colors sucked. I am disappointed with the reasoning behind changing the name. If we use this criteria for changing names then I think we should change the name of the Texas Rangers since it might be offensive to criminals. 1836 is an important year for Texas. I also find this really offensive to change the name on the day the Alamo fell.

But critics felt the name was anti-Mexican because that was also the year Texas defeated Mexico for its independence.

Yet there is the New England Revolution, does that imply it's anti-British?

nevermind that the majority of those living in Texas and fighting for Texas during the revolution were Hispanic, many of them wealthy landowners.

Never would've noticed that had you not said it. As a matter of fact, I was looking for a kit to help me change the name of my new bride.

Ooh! I thought it was a different kind of change kit you were looking for, so you could BECOME the new bride!
(Didn't I see you on the Oscars the other night, nominated for Transamerica?)

Communal living or "communism" has nothing to do with censorship.

By definintion correct, in practice, another matter. Just ask the people of the former soviet state about the free flow of information.....

Wel..

This was a smart business decision. 1836 sucked as a name to start with, plus Mexicans and Latinos will make up a huge part of their fan base. It doesn't make any sense to piss off even a small part of their core market.

The same thing goes for all these colleges who are changing their mascots. It's usually just good marketing. Teams with dopey Indian caricatures as mascots simply sell less merchandise.

Dynamo is a pretty lame name, too.
