Im not seeing the big deal about this whole thing is, other than a horrible accident for the person shot. I think the media is blowing the whole thing out of proportion. If I got shot in the face, I would rather have people take time to make sure im ok than tell everybody that something happened. But maybe im just old fashioned that way.

when quail hunting, that is one of the #1 dangers in the sport...... a risk one is willing to take

Sport? I don't know if driving around on a farm shooting little birds is a sport. Now hunting wild boar...with a knife, that's sport.

Why would you need a knife?

I heard that when Chuck Norris goes hunting for quail, he uses a straightened paper clip and chuck throws it like a spear.... The reason he stopped going hunting was that one day chuck threw it so hard it went straight through the bird and kept going.... needless to say .... he broke the hubble telescope so the government asked chuck politely to stop. He then round-house kicked a giant elk on his way back home for his last hunting trophy ever.

Jack Bauer doesn't even need the paper clip.

if jack bauer did have the paper clip, he would probably use it to torture the quail into telling him where the rest of the flock is.

We can see what the "24" aficionados will respond to this.

I havent been following the whole incident much, but where does this fall legally? Is it simply a matter of whether the other guy wants to press charges or is there some legal aspect beyond this?

Just another example of careless use of a firearm. You would think that someone that high up in the administration would use better care and judgement...

I think we can all agree that there's a great deal of history showing high level government officials (US or otherwise) using bad judgement and not taking care.

I heard that he thought it was Cindy Sheehan running in front of him...
I also was wondering yesterday if The Daily Show would have any comment on the episode last night - and they didn't disappoint. One of the fun things on the show are the captions they put on pictures - my favorite (all sing along now) "Cheney's got a gun..."
The fact that the recipient of the "peppering" was a lawyer has also been great fodder for the comics - all the lawyer jokes get to be recycled.
