Would a future Super Bowl head to Blaine, MN?
DETROIT - Bill Ford, owner of the Detroit Lions, didn't ask for the help and actually told friends that he would not actively campaign to get a second Super Bowl in Detroit.
But NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue told the powers in the state of Michigan that if they built a covered stadium, the league would bring a second Super Bowl. And he did. It will be played today.
Detroit had Super Bowl XVI in January 1982, which was played in the Silverdome.
Now Tagliabue is willing to consider a second Super Bowl for the Twin Cities if the great governor, Tim Pawlenty, and his do-nothings in the Legislature will help new Vikings owner Zygi Wilf build his stadium and assorted other toys in Blaine.

Blaine is too far out. The new field needs to go downtown across the street from that disaster they call home now.
Detroit rocked during the Super Bowl becaue all the events took place within 20 blocks downtown. Minneapolis is a far better town (Brit's Pub for lawn bowling anyone?). I had a great time in the D. Ford Field is amazing. They incorporated an old department store warehouse into the luxury boxes.
The people were great as well. If only Minneapolis had anything in the same ballpark as the fabulous La Shish restaurants. Lamb Shawarma for all!!!

I love that the Star Tribune article talks as if the Vikings Stadium should be at the top of the legislature's list. As if they don't have to worry about funding schools, road construction and making sure people aren't living in poverty. No way, stop the presses, lets get our priorities straight...
We need a new football stadium for a team that-
#1- Doesn't win.
#2- Threatens to leave all the time.
#3- Participates in group sex on yachts.
Here's a crazy idea- Lets make an investment in the University of Minnesota. Those boys deserve a new on campus stadium and on top of that, they are actually a state product and therefore an investment back in to our own public good.
I've got plenty of tax dollars for the University of Minnesota. Anytime...

Plus they always win their "tough" non-conference schedule when it is still warm outside..........

maybe we would draw more prospects if we had a stadium on campus (you should be familiar with the "if you build it, they will come" philosophy). I think the U is a bigger priority for a stadium than the vikings or twins are. its a state school that is supposed to be supported by the state. the pro teams are privately owned. they can get someone else to pay for those.

minnesota is a pro based sports society. Your average sports fan like my dad, uncle or normal joe schmo really cares nothing about the U.
The article was written by Sid Hartman, the MAN IN SPORTS in Minnesota, but a lot of the times he jump the gun a little prematurely. I am saying we steal Miller Park from Wisconson and pull it straight up 94 to minneapolis- it would solve a lot of problems.

John, you know I love you, but to say Minnesota is pro sports based is a little off. Keep in mind that Minnesota packs a 22,000 seat ice rink for the quarterfinals of the state high school hockey tournament... Minnesota is even a state that built an ice rink for WOMEN'S hockey that manages to sell out every game too. If anything, Minnesota is probably one of the most amateur sports friendly places in the United States.
In Connecticut, the average attendance at high school football games is less than 600. Ouch!
And don't get me started on crotchity old Sid Hartman. Sid has built up the idea of a new Vikings Stadium so much that he is hardly thinking clear and realistically about the entire process. The fact that he supports a stadium in Blaine is proof enough of that...
