World Baseball Classic...

Postby JW on Thu Dec 15, 2005 5:28 am

As a baseball fan I can't tell you how excited I was to see that there was going to be a World Baseball Classic, with world cup type rules. I have been wanting to see this for years, especially with the growth of baseball in Japan lately. We have all known about the importance of Latin players in MLB and in recent years we have had Japanese Ball players come to the states and win the MVP (Ichiro). I have wanted to see what the best players from the United States could do against the rest of the World. This is actually the World series.

I am not a soccer fan, but every time the World Cup comes around I stop down and watch. I hope that those who are not Baseball fans can latch onto this. This event is long overdue.

The one thing of this event that will be bittersweet is that Cuba will not be able to participate. Cuba has always been a baseball powerhouse in the olympics, and many Cuban Nationals have defected and played well in the states (Orlando and Livan Hernandez). I am in favor of it for a political reason, just another way that we can stick it to Castro. I am not in favor of it as a baseball fan, I want to see the best baseball countries in the world playing this game. Not having Cuba involved takes away from it a little bit.

I think it is great that MLB players were so quick to jump in.

USA, USA, USA, USA, USA.
