Still vividly recalling that picture of a high school kid coming out of Male High School in Louisville (remember Street & Smith) and went on to a stellar career at the University of Louisville and then to the Utah Jazz. Who is he?

Still vividly remembering the picture of this high school kid ready to shoot a free throw (again that came from Street & Smith). His name is Ernie Grunfeld. What state did he come from? The next question will excite some alums- what college did he attend? Finally, was Ernie actually born in the United States?

Ernie Grunfeld, part of the Ernie and Bernie Show at The University of Tennessee, hails from Forest Hills, Queens, New York but actually, he was born in Romania. His college coach was the great Ray Mears. Ernie graduated as the career points leader. His record was broken by Allan Houston, whom Ernie later traded for as GM of the Knicks.




Ernie was a member of the 1976 US Olympic Basketball Team. Played for the Knicks.

Currently, Ernie is the President of Basketball Operations for my hometown Washington Bullets. Previously, he held similar posts with the Knicks and Bucks

And you thought that Tennessee only had women's basketball? We might not have had the talent of other schools but back in the day, my alma mater could hoop. We don't have many men's basketball heroes, so our knowledge of the few is extensive. Makes it easier that way.
