BOULDER, Colo. -- A 19-year-old freshman at the University of Colorado faces criminal charges after police said he made a fake bar code label to buy an iPod for $4.99. The actual price of the MP3 player was $149.99.
Jonathan Baldino was arrested Wednesday at a Target store and police said the electrical-engineering student admitted making phony bar codes using a program he downloaded off the Internet.

pretty ingenious, except for the whole $4.99 part. Should have tried for like $100 or something that was plausible. I don't advocating stealing though.

Unless the person had a friend working the register, how could he possibly expect to get away with this? Any honest, sane person would immediately recognize that there's no way an iPod could only cost $4.99. Some people just get way too greedy when trying to commit fraud.

In the old days, here in dallas, the sporting goods stores were not too familiar with lacrosse equipment and they would always mistakenly mark items for a considerable amount less than retail value. I once found a box of balls for 1.99 instead of each ball being 1.99. I also got alot of sticks cheaper because they didn't know the difference between a hi-wall and an edge.
