For those of you who have stood on the shores of the Great Lakes and watched the Freighters go by, here is a bit of Maritime history that might interest you: The Edmund Fitzgerald, made famous by Gordon Lightfoot's '76 ballad sank thirty years ago.

I had to work in Brimley, MI this past August and travelled to the site of the wreck. Sorry to report Gordon Lightfoot was not buried there also. TGhe Soo is a gorgeous place to holiday. Plenty of natural beautiful and wonderful casinos.

Sorry to report that Lightfoot wasn't buried there? The man's not even dead yet! I'd be more sorry if he was buried there....

For those of us living in Detroit at the time it was BIG news. The idea of 30-foot waves on a lake is kind of mind blowing, but not surprising if you consider the size of the lakes. They are large enough to have tides. Geology lesson for the day: Lake Superior, the deepest of the Great Lakes is the only one NOT carved out by the glaciers--it is volcanic in origin.
And I LIKE Gordon Lightfoot!

I'm a big Lightfoot fan too. But of course, being Canadian, I was raised on nothing but him, Anne Murray, and Bryan Adams...

They didn't really become popular until after my formative years (luckily). But in my teens I was definitely bombarded by their crap.
