someone explain to me? their strength of schedule is not what it was before the season, they will likely be 9-2. is their strong travel numbers fan-wise the reason that everyone has them as a shoe-in for a bcs game?

TV Ratings for ND are pretty good. (It ain't due to the fan support they will bring to the bowl necessarily.)
I also think they are guaranteed a spot in the BCS if they attain a certain record (no more then 2 losses, if I recall correctly) AND they finish in the Top 12 of the BCS standings.

they are guaranteed a spot in the BCS cuz of the "Notre Dame rule." since the BCS is conference-based and ND has no conference, the creators made a exception for independents and teams in non-BCS conferences. thats how Utah got in last year. it also cam about from the Tulane team a few years back (Shaun King) that went undefeated and couldnt crack the Top 10.
anybody else seeing a parallel between Ty Willingham's first season at ND and Charlie Weis? minus the 10-year extension, that is.

I remember watching a sports show last week where someone pointed that out. Ty Willingham was like 8 - 0 his first year in South Bend. Weis starts out his first season 5 - 2 and they give him a 10-year extension.

I wonder who ND will play. Penn State? WVU? Bama? Miami (Since I think UM can beat FSU this time in the ACC champsionship game) The teams on the BCS bubble appear to be VT, LSU, UGA, and Ohio State. And which bowl, Fiesta?

It was actually a 5-yr extension since his original contract is for 5 years.
I've been an Irish fan since I was a kid and to see them doing some great things with the ball in the air is awesome. I am a little skeptical since Weis is winning with Willingham's recruits, though. Who knows what'll happen in 3 years when Weis' recruits start giving it a crack.

I remember that, 8-0 until they donned the green jerseys @ BC.
i dont' really understand the contract extension either. 10 years is ridiculous. they are going to look foolish if he ends up the same way Ty did in his 2nd year.
i had also forgotten about the non-bcs conference clause.

The myth of the green jerseys at ND is funny.
