The iTrip can pick up some static. Other times it can be quite clear. There are other products that are a little better than the iTrip. IF you're just going to use it for the car, there is a unit that will plug into a cigarette lighter that you can slip the iPod in to transmit through the car radio. There are about 4 pre-set radio stations that you can change to on this unit to get the clearest sound through your radio. I will post the manufacturer's name later, as it is at home. Cost is around $100, I think. I have this unit and it works quite well.

Belkin also makes a unit similar to the iTrip which does the same thing. It runs on AAA batteries. Cost on that is about $35.

itrip works alright, you have to keep your ipod around 70% volume and it works pretty well for an fm transmitter. you are better off hooking it up to a tape adapter or an aux in jack (hopefully you have one, as it is the best option)

If you have a tape player in your car get the tape player converter which works much better since you don't have to transmit it through a radio station. I have an Itrip and it works fairly well but I am from San Francisco where there is a lack of static free stations that you can broadcast through so at times it can be very staticy. Plus the Itrip burns through your battery power likes its going out of style.

I read the Belkin one plugs into your cigarette lighter so it powers it along with transmitting it.

Still waiting to hear what CATLAX MAN has.

The unit I have is a dLo Transpod. The beauty of this unit is that it recharges your iPod battery as it is playing, so you never run out of battery power which makes it great for long trips. It is able to do this because it plugs into the lower jack instead of the headphone jack like the Belkin unit and the iTrip do. The unit also has a hard mount into the cigarette lighter instead of sitting loose like the Belkin unit. Makes it more convenient to see and operate the iPod while driving. Costs about $100 from everythingipod.com or dLodirect.

Here is a picture of the unit:

the monster cable iCarplay is only $70 and charges at the same time. Gives pretty good signal as long at you don't have the transmitter against a surface.

You're welcome. However, I might not have given you this information if I knew it was for the purpose of playing Mambo #5.

If you're going with subs and want it to sound decent get the car stereo version of the dock cable. My friend just had this installed at circuit city. The new alpine decks can control ipods (really nice feature, its kind of dangerous to be looking at the ipod for like 15 seconds), and then its like $30 for the dock cable. The dock cable allows for the sound to be amplified and sound quality is superior.

best buy sells an ipod adapter that plugs into RCA jacks in the back of your radio and will play it though aux or cd player.....
i have one in my 1985 k5 blazer [my baby] thats plugged into a sony xplod head unit.... sounds great with the subs in it.... i got 2 12" jl audio subs

in my 2002 grand cherokee i just use a tape adapter with the stock stereo and sounds good, but not many cars now come with a tape player
