I'm sure that I have the minority opinion but the bus driver was justified in his actions. He attempted to restrain an unruly teenager without using excessive force. Yeah, it looks horrific but what would you do in that situation.

I just wonder what is a person supposed to do in that situation? Do you let the kid say what he wants, when he whats to whomever he wants?
By no means am I saying that he should have or shouldn't have punched the kid, but I just wonder what gives these kids the right to do what they do nowadays

The sound isn't working on my computer, so it's just video, but man, that driver seems to be a little over-reacting - in a major league way. He is way over the edge, and I dare say it will cost him his job (at least for a while) and the bus company/school district more dollars than you might expect. He's in the wrong.
As to what you do, you report the kid, write him up, but to physically strike and choke him, along with whatever went on in the back when the view is blocked - not in the policy manual.

i watched it again with the sound.
the bus driver is an idiot for doing that.
those little bastards deserved to get hit. you just have to be a moron to hit a minor.
i was actually more impressed with the kid in blue's reaction "call the deputy and let me off this bus, you are going to jail"

Regardless of what the busdriver is doing... You have to love the parenting. They'll probably get a pat on the back from their parents when they get home. If those were my kids, I would be furious someone else put their hands on them, but they'd definately get dealt with at home.

I agree with Kyle. It is absolutely absurd that the driver hit/chocked/touched another individual in that manner and even worse a minor and even worse than that another person's kid.
I would be pissed at my kid for disrespecting an adult and would discipline accordingly but you had better believe that I would have that drivers job and a formal apology for hitting my kid. Just to be fair I would make my kid apologize as well 'cause you just don't disrespect an authority figure even if their wrong. I'd be surprised if he didn't get sued.
What would have happened if he hit the kid hard enough to really hurt him? Thats a lawsuit waiting to happen.

What exactly did the kids do that was so out of line prior to the bus driver smacking one of them?
Twelve year olds yelling and talking on a bus? The horror!

Don't get me wrong, I'm not condoning beating 12 years olds. You're an incredible axample when you do.
Who knows what the kids did.... Its real easy to tell with the cropped video. I'm going to guess that they all were sitting there nicely, behaving themselves, then the tape started, and the bus driver just got real mad....

I'm with you on that Hack! I also agree my kids would have an unwelcome homecoming, but the driver is way out of line. I also imagine a lot of posters don't have kids yet. Being a parent of four little "angels" gives you a different perspective.

speaking as a fairly young person who has probably been one of the more recent to ride the school bus (till my junior year-yeah im that cool) i saw several instances where bus drivers had plenty of reason to be upset, but never to the extent of physically striking the child. usually sitting in the front seats was punishment enough. i have to say my favorite time was where the kids were so out of line so early that the bus driver pulled back into the school using the entrance about 500 feet down the road.
