I want to kick off a Voter Drive here on CollegeLax. For the record, I am registered in Illinois and will be voting early come October because I will be in Ohio for work on Election Day. How many of you are registered to vote? It only takes a few minutes to do and is your Constitutional right. Get registered and vote.
Requirments:
1. Are you a U.S. citizen?
2. Will you be at least 18 years on or before Election Day, 4 November 2008?
If you answered "YES" to both questions and have not registered in your state, here is a link that simplifies the process and only costs you a 42-cent stamp. It will walk you through the steps and you only have to fill in the information highlighted by the red dots. Once you are done, you print out the .pdf and follow the instructions for mailing: http://www.rockthevote.org/
If you live overseas and need to register or get an absentee ballot, try this link. This link also applies to those spending the fall semester abroad.
Enter your home state and county and follow the steps: https://www.overseasvotefoundation.org/overseas/eod.htm?stateId=
Not sure if you are registered. Entered your state here and follow the link:http://www.registrationbyworkingassets.com/site/sos/
If entering your information into a website is not your thing, then print out The National Mail Voter Registration Form and mail it in:
English http://www.fabnit.com/nvra-update-09-12-06.pdf
En Espanol http://www.fabnit.com/nvra-spanish-update-09-12-06.pdf
(These are the same forms that http://www.rockthevote.org/ generates)
There is no excuse not to vote!

Actually just found out that in Illinois, you can register to vote while waiting for the DMV workers to stop staring at their shoes and start moving the line.
Just ask the one who mindlessly twiddles her pen for 3 hours while a line of 67 people builds up. Once and a while she looks down, and pretends to read the blank piece of paper in front of her. don't catch her then, she's actually busy!!!
seeing as how it only takes 10 seconds to fill out the voter registration form, it is only a slight relief.
Also, seeing as how it only takes 10 seconds of your time, there is no reason not to. Particullarly if you are at the DMV.
One more Illinoisian voting. Thanks, Knox, for starting this thread.

Yes, the National Voter Registration Act of 1993 or Motor Voter Law allows you to register to vote when you apply or renew your driver's licence. A driver's licence alone does not mean that you are registered, though. It is a separate step, as is signing up to be an organ donor.

I killed two birds with one stone when i got my nebraska drivers license. And the great part about moving from DC to a state with a smaller population than my old county??? No lines at the DMV!!! Guess thats the only real perk about living in Nebraska....well that and i saw my first tornado today.
