interesting article on the ongoing fight between the players union and owners, do NFL players really make to much? and how can people with more money than they know what to do with complain about not making an extra 10 million a year?

We may make a lot of money, but we spend a lot of money, too.

Patrick Ewing, former NBA All-star

I hope that the NFL Network goes to 16 games well before this is allegedly to happen. For purely selfish reasons, of course.

From Wikipedia:

On October 31, 2004, the Minnesota Timberwolves offered Sprewell a 3-year, $21 million contract extension, substantially less than what his then-current contract paid him. Insulted, he publicly vented his outrage, declaring, "I have a family to feed." He declined the extension, and, having once more drawn the ire of fans and sports media, had the worst season of his career in the final year of his contract.

Not sure I could feed my family with $7 million a year either.

Balderdash! Our professional athletes are in said position because they spent 20-30+ years not studying, reading or bettering their minds...but by running into things, often head first and/or out in the sun.

To expect anything less our of our ingenious present day gladiators than a Bentley for a 7 year-old, a mansion with more rooms than the athlete can count, or even a diamond crusted goblet exclaiming one's promiscuity would be quite cockamamie, to say the least.

Embrace the stupid, for it's a fine wine.

And he ended up out of basketball and had his boat and house repossessed, I think. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

Don't know if Sprewell did, but I'm almost certain Rasheed Wallace (if it wasn't him, it was another UNC player) had sticks in his garage.

This statement is more spot on than you may have intended. While I am with all of you that complaints over $7 million contracts is absurd, there is something to be said about the "modern gladiatorial" aspect of their lives. They sacrifice much of a normal livelihood to exist in the limelight, yes voluntarily, but they do deserve something for that sacrifice correct?

And before everyone attacks the players, we must see the reverse of the coin as well and know that the owners are not exactly blameless in this continuing struggle for money. In the end it is they who are in it to collect millions, if not billions of dollars, by owning these teams. Those who bring in those billions deserve a cut don't they?

I love how everyone who plays lacrosse notices sticks or goals in the background of MTV Cribs episodes or movie trailers.

Or in the backyard of the guys house in Knocked Up. I believe it makes a debut when they are playing ping pong and talking about when they can get the site up and running, if I'm not mistaken.

You should see the new Nike Sparq avertising campaign. Stay with it until about the middle and then watch the mainstream love flow for the sport of lacrosse:

Don't know how many of you guys watched USD knock off my Zags in the WCC tournament the other day. The game was on ESPN. One of the USD students was wearing his CPX during the game (also had on a USD lacrosse club t-shirt).
