Undefeated
*OSU

1 Loss Teams
Louisville (to Rutgers)
WVU (to Louisville)
Rutgers (to WVU...we'll see)
Michigan (to OSU)
*Texas (to OSU)
*USC (to Oregon State)
Auburn (to Arkansas)
*Florida (to Auburn)
Notre Dame (to Michigan)

*conference champs
But with OSU..that's 10 teams....10 BCS bowl spots...that's gonna be awsome...but...we'll have to wait and see.

What about California (to Tennessee)?

Cal has to play USC still...and Im "assuming" USC will win. And since USC's defense started earning their scholarships this year (unlike last year in the nat'l championship game)...USC looks like the victor of the PAC-10.

That's a big assumption. Cal looks to have the better team right now. USC is not as good as they have been in previous years. ALso, even if USC wins, it's not a lock they win the conference. Cal is in the driver's seat there with no conference losses.

How does the Pac-10 resolve ties without an end of year championship game? (Assuming USC beats Cal and both teams run the table in conference.) Is it head to head or something else?

True, but the Winner would have the Head-to-Head advantage. Im not sure if the Pac-10 does it, but I know other conferences do. Regardless...the national championship picture includes overall losses...which would send a 2-loss USC out of the picture...or a 1-loss-to-Tennessee Cal into the BCS. Arkansas has no conference losses...but they do have that 572-14 loss to USC at the beginning of the year (50-14).

All of this is moot if USC loses to Oregon this weekend. Not saying it's going to happen, but everybody is assuming Oregon is going to get blown out, which I find a little odd. If Oregon wins and Cal wins this weekend, Cal is going to the Rose Bowl at the minimum because everybody else in the Pac-10 will have two losses (I am assuming Cal does not lose to Stanford...if they do, I may never go to another Cal game) and Cal will still have an outside shot at the NCG.

This is how the tie-breaker in the Pac-10 works:

Two-team ties go to the head-to-head winner. Ties of three or more teams go first to a team that beat all the others, then to a team with the best record against the others. If two or more are still tied, it goes back for another round of the two- and three-or-more criteria. If teams are still tied, their records against the next-highest team are factored in and on down through the league until the tie is broken.

If still tied, the Rose Bowl rep will be the team with the highest BCS ranking. And if still tied, the team that's not gone to the Rose Bowl for the longest time gets to go.

Auburn has one loss...but since Arkansas has the Head-To-Head over them...even if Arkansas loses to Tennessee OR LSU (not both)...then Arkansas would get the Automatic bid to the SEC title game...having one-loss Florida and one-loss Arkansas...the loser would have 2 losses...the winner (and Auburn) would have 1 each.

I didn't look at the conference standings before I replied--you're right. Having done so, it leaves me wondering why Auburn is ahead of Arkansas...

So uh...Cal eh? They lost to Arizona. Yeah. I think there's a "You cant lose to Arizona and play for a bcs game" clause.

- Ohio State and Michigan bounced back from "bad" performances last week and basically thumped their opponents.

- Louisville, Texas, Auburn, California, thanks for playing the BCS game. You can pick up your party favors on the way out.

- Arkansas looked very good tonight. I think anyone could play QB (pick a lucky student each quarter), just hand the ball off to McFadden.

- College Football seems weird to me when Miami and FSU are 5-5.

- If you ever want to see a team quit and mail in the season, you can pick up the Iowa Football 2006 Season DVD at the end of the year.

Try FSU last night. Down 30 - 0 against Wake Forest in the 2nd half at home with Doak Campbell Stadium less then half full.

How much more rope is the FSU adminstration going to give Bobby?

Since I go to FSU and get free tickets and yet decided to watch the game from the comfort of my couch with a nice cold bottle of...eh, soda I think I need to explain the FSU faithful. Essentially they don't exist. That stadium was empty not because of rain but because the students around here jump off the bandwagon after the first loss of the season and even if the Noles are doing well the student section empties at halftime. FSU fans are not football fans, they love tailgating, the atmosphere, and winning but they don't love football. After five years of mediocrity, I think the fan base has become resigned to the fact that FSU is just another ACC team.

The school president has said Bobby is here as long as he wants to be and that he would not get involved in the hiring and firing of the coaching staff. I agree with all of that because love him or hate him, Bobby Bowden put FSU on the map and the rest of the University has benefitted.

All of the above is why I follow the mighty Brown and White of Lehigh University as they battle for the Patriot League crown. God bless DirecTV.

I agree. Bowden has built FSU football and the administration and athletic director are not going to remove him. The question now is whether or not Bowden recognizes the need for change and bows out gracefully.

I am wondering if Florida would move up a little bit, and I'm figuring they would be in the range of ranking of #3 to #6 due to their close win over South Carolina, 17-16 when South Carolina's FG was blocked with 8 seconds left. Notre Dame looks a little bit stronger than Florida.

With the whole BCS thing in general, I guess I just can't buy into a system that starts the season with around 100 teams, all purportedly in one division, and yet some teams literally have no chance of winning the championship no matter what they do on the field. That's just not a fair system.

There can be no George Mason in NCAA DI football. . . .
