Where was this during the Duke Lacrosse case?
I think you're getting your organizations mixed up. If the ACLU issues a statement, then you may have a claim.

I recant any statement of "innocence" for Vick. One of the defendants already plead guilty to the acts on Vick's property.
He's done.
He's done.

ummmmm....the advancement of colored people part would rule out the Duke players fairly quickly. Condeming the actions and reactions of the African American community during the case maybe?

I know what the NAACP stands for, the point is that they are saying that everyone should leave Vick alone and let the judicial system work itself out. However, wasn't it the same people who condemmed the players and stood up to support the stripper?

The caution against a rush to judgment and the public defense of due process are both consistent with the NAACP's longstanding principles on criminal justice issues.
But the action only highlights the hypocrisy of the organization's approach to the lacrosse case. The organization's representatives, Al McSurely and Irving Joyner, blandly defended Mike Nifong's approach to the case; McSurely penned a guilt-presuming and factually inaccurate memorandum of law; and state president William Barber delivered a character attack on the players inside the Duke Chapel itself.

This blog is familiar to those that followed the Duke case and has become widely respected for the coverage provided. You can find links through this page to various instances of the North Carolina NAACP failing to give the Duke accused the presumption of innocence that they seem to feel Mike Vick deserves.
I, however, fail to see the nation's rush to condem in this instance that was so apparent in the Duke case (where is the Newsweek cover with his mugshot?). I believe that the NAACP may be attempting to change the nature of the debate about this situation as many may interpret Vick's (alleged) guilt in this case as evidence that hip-hop culture (read: black) is somehow to blame. If we start talking about the nation's rush to judgement of Vick because he is black and has tattoos, no cornrows anymore you'll notice, then maybe we'll start to forget that he is accused of raising and fighting dogs for the purposes of gambling, often brutally killing those he deemed unfit...nice guy. Of course it may not be true and he is only the most ignorant of landlords but then, why was he buying syringes? To treat his VD?
Remember, this is not some rogue prosecutor who hasn't interviewed the accuser. This is the US Government with eyewitnesses placing Vick at the scene of numerous dog fights. You'd think that a guy like Vick would have seen Goodfellas enough times to know that someone always snitches.

In an important statement, Atlanta NAACP head R.L. White has admitted his North Carolina counterparts erred in their rush to judgment about the lacrosse case.
Interviewed on ESPN, White mentioned that lacrosse case as an example of a rush to judgment that was wrong. Host Jay Crawford responded immediately, with a great off-the-cuff question:
During that case, the North Carolina chapter of the NAACP didn't show the same restraint that you're calling for now. In fact, they posted on their website 82 laws and torts that the lacrosse players supposedly broke, according to published reports, before the case ever went to trial--a trial that obviously, as you pointed out, never happened because all charges were eventually dropped.
Why is the situation with Michael Vick different than the Duke lacrosse case, when the North Carolina chapter was guilty of doing exactly what you're asking people not to do?
Because Crawford was able to formulate the perfect follow-up question for White, the NAACP head had to confront the issue, and admitted, "We have not always been right in cases. We are not going to make a mistake again. We want to say we made a mistake in that case.”

Jesse Jackson, Then and Now
Jesse Jackson, Then and Now
Mid-April 2006:
“Something happened on the night of March 13th—something so compelling that Durham District Attorney Michael Nifong was prompted to say, 'This case is not going away’ . . . We know that the two women were abused . . . The Duke scandal should lead colleges across the country to hold searching discussions about racial and sexual stereotypes, exposing the myths that entrap so many. But it shouldn’t take the brutalizing of a mother of two to raise these issues.”
Mid-July 2007:
Jackson was critical of Commissioner Bud Selig for distancing himself from [Barry] Bonds, saying, “The judge and jury will determine the outcome of the controversy. The commissioner of baseball, by inference, is suggesting he’s guilty, which I will not be a part of. That leaves Barry out in the cold without the infrastructure of baseball. That’s a very low blow.”

Are you freaking kidding me?!? Talking about this case then bringing up racial issues 40 years ago is bogus as hell and just trying to stir the pot. That is one of the most irresponsible pieces of "writing" that ESPN has ever produced. The writer of that article is a sorry excuse for a "writer" and himself sounds like nothing more than an blogger trying to snake his way into a job by touching on subjects that piss people off.
And now people are talking about a conspiracy!?? Yes, a conspiracy has somehow managed to take people that are his friends...and replace them with confessing/plea-bargaining robots. Geniuses...pure geniuses.
Across town at the local NAACP office, a different reaction brewed. The phones rang off the hook: What are the leaders going to do about the Michael Vick situation? Were they going to let people treat Vick like he'd already been convicted just because of the color of his skin?

Vick reaches plea agreement on dogfighting
RICHMOND, Va. - Michael Vick's attorney says the Atlanta Falcons quarterback will plead guilty to a dogfighting conspiracy charge and probably faces jail time.
A status update is scheduled for 3 p.m. ET Monday, WXIA reported.
