As most of you know, Syracuse dropped the "men" from their orangeman mascot. Aside from them, name the other 6 NCAA Div. 1-A teams with SINGULAR mascots.

i.e. orangemen is plural, where orange is a color, and is thus singular.

30. The ACC. They left to become an independent because the NCAA Hoops tournament at the time limited each conference to one team in the tournament (conference tournament champions). They were pissed off about the officiating bias toward Tabacco Road teams and thought they would have a better shot as an indepenent.

31. Wallace Wade Stadium (Duke University) in Durham, NC. Oregon State vs. ??? MOved due to WW2 concerns (security on the West coast).

Lets see - Texas, TAMU, Rice, Houston, TCU, Baylor, Texas Tech, SMU, and Arkansas.

Keith Jackson did not go to Alabama, though one might assume that with his ad naseum Bear Bryant and Crimson Tide references. So what school did he graduate from?

He either was born or raised in Carrolton, GA or went to West Georgia. (I think.)

I agree about creating a trivia forum, it would be well worth it...And I still contend that Irish and Illini can be both singular and plural so they should count in the list :D

The only hand signals that I am not familiar with are Rice, SMU and Arkansas. It would be interesting to see if any of these hand signals would come in compressed pictures on the Internet.

Speaking of Arkansas, Houston Nutt is currently the football head coach of the Razorbacks. Why is his family, Nutt so well known in the Arkansas Deaf community? If I remembered correctly, Sports Illustrated did a story on Houston Nutt several years ago.

Who were the head coaches for the old Southwest Conference teams listed above during the 1970s?

NOTE: I better stop spreading sensory overload.

12. Correct. They were to use the old Wrigley Stadium West (home of "Home Run Derby") but that facility was too small.

26. Correct. Years ahead of political correctness.

30. Correct. The ACC also passed a rules tightening academic requirements for student athletes that USC opposed. The day after USC left the ACC, the measure was revoked.

31. Correct. The opponent was Duke, a home game. The game was moved following the attack on Pearl Harbor.

Sonny, Lax Ref ... I was thinking one of you two might know this right off the bat.

1948 is the correct answer even though no one guessed.

Here is some other famous firsts from the NFL.

First NFL Night Game - November 6, 1929
The Chicago Cardinals defeated the Providence Steam Roller, 16-0.

First NFL Rules - February 25, 1933
In 1933, NFL officials adopted rules specifically for the NFL and discontinued the use of collegiate rules.

First NFL Championship Game - December 17, 1933
The Chicago Bears defeated the New York Giants, 23-21.

First NFL Draft Pick - February 8, 1936
A halfback by the name of Jay Berwanger holds the distinction of being the very first NFL draft pick and the first Heismann Trophy winner.

First Pro Bowl - January 15, 1939
The New York Giants defeated the Pro All-Stars, 13-10.

First NFL Divisional Playoff Game - December 14, 1941
The Chicago Bears defeated the Green Bay Packers, 33-14, in an NFL Western Division playoff game.

First African-American NFL Player - March 21, 1946
The Los Angeles Rams signed halfback Kenny Washington to an NFL contract.

First African-American NFL Player From an All-Black College - 1947
Paul "Tank" Younger also signed with the L.A. Rams a year after Washington.

First Use of a Penalty Flag in the NFL - September 17, 1948
The penalty flag was first used in the NFL in a game between the Green Bay Packers and the Boston Yanks.

First Overtime NFL Game - August 28, 1955
The Los Angeles Rams defeated the New York Giants, 23-17, three minutes into overtime of a preseason contest.

First Overtime NFL Championship Game - December 28, 1958
The Baltimore Colts defeated the New York Giants, 23-17.

First Super Bowl - January 15, 1967

First African-American Head Coach of the Modern NFL Era - 1989

First NFL Playoff Game Featuring Two Black Head Coaches - January 4, 2003
Herman Edwards' New York Jets defeated Tony Dungy's Indianapolis Colts 41-0 in the wild-card round. Pretty sad it was 2003 before this happened considering how many minorites are in the NFL
