I second Sonny's motion that E. needs to calm down.

My question is- should we create a "Trivia" subsection of Water Cooler? The Trivia subsection can apply to any sport, but it would be nice to see more trivia questions related to lacrosse (past and present).
What say y'all?

As most of you know, Syracuse dropped the "men" from their orangeman mascot. Aside from them, name the other 6 NCAA Div. 1-A teams with SINGULAR mascots.
i.e. orangemen is plural, where orange is a color, and is thus singular.
Stanford Cardinal
Harvard Crimson
Alabama Crimson Tide
Tulane Green Wave
Notre Dame Fighting Irish
U of I Illini (is that singular)

2. In what year did women compete in the Olympics?
Hint: Modern olympics started in 1896.
Hint #2: 1906 is not considered to be an olympic year even though there were games in Athens.
The 1900 Olympics in Paris, but only for tennis.

Harvard is not div 1a
Irish is plural as is Illini
I asked this question at work and they agreed that 2 are "debatable" as to whether they are plural or not.
So far we have Stanford, Alabama, Tulane.

Ah, yes but they are Division 1 in men's and women's basketball, amongst other varsity sports. The OP did not specify football only and I am willing to give them the benefit of the doubt, since D1-a and D1-aa is reserved for football and most don't understand the NCAA's criteria.
For the NCAA's criteria for Division I,II and III check out:

I agree that there should be a trivia thread.

OK. Looks like I stumped everyone. The answer is.........
Elston Howard, C for the NY Yankees. He hit .287 with 28 HR & 85 RBI in 1963. He was the first African-American to play for the NYY and also the first African-American to win the AL MVP.

Eric Show gave up Pete Rose's single to left center to break Ty Cobb's record.
Ken Anderson went to Augustana
Dave Krieg went to some small school in Wisconsin that doesn't have a football program anymore

15. Correct
28. Correct. Anderson went to school in "the fairest village on the river."
29. Incorrect. Krieg did attend college in the state of Wisconsin but I am looking for the name of the college.

Very good.
In 1900... the womens event was Tennis.
In 1904... the womens event was Archery.
In 1908... the womens event was figure skating (also found in the olympics in 1920, oddly enough both were in the summer)
In 1912... the womens event was Swimming and Tennis.
Still no answer for the first year the penalty flag was used in the NFL?
Sonny, Lax Ref ... I was thinking one of you two might know this right off the bat.
