ronaldo

NOTE: Cristiano Ronaldo is a really annoying flopping footballer I have ever seen especially his ridiculous flopping and diving at the World Cup.

all that diving and injury crap in the World Cup did not help gain any futbol fans in the states. From my perspective, a lot of non-futbol fans were willing to give it a shot, but that crap really turned them all off. It's too bad. You rarely see that when club play starts. FIFA needs to put a stop to it. Just get up and play.

Just visited Yahoo! Sports and found out that AC Milan reportedly signed Ronaldo (Real Madrid) for $9.7 million, and his contract is for 18 months until June 30, 2008.

Gooch was loaned to Newcastle until the end of this season with an option to buy. my guess is that they wont buy him, but that he is "auditioning" for the bigger clubs with more money in England to show that he can play the Enlgish style and keep up with the pace. There are roughly 12 games left in the season.

Christiano is the biggest diver in the world today. he's awful. the other players in the EPL target him to try to get a yellow card on him, but the refs are pansies.

Diving in the World Cup is the same stuff that i see in the NBA with all the arms flailing about by Steve Nash, Dirk, Dwayne Wade, Kobe, and those "superstars" that always try and draw fouls to get free throws. its the same thing to me and they get bigger star treatment cuz the commish tells the refs to do it.
peace.

Just read that Tom Hicks, the owner of the Dallas Stars and the Texas Rangers is joining forces with Gillett, owner of the Montreal Canadiens, to make a bid to buy Liverpool. A Dubai-based company backed out of the negotiations after hearing that Gillett is interested in purchasing the Liverpool football club.

If that happens, will the folks in Liverpool call Hicks and Gillett their adopted Liverpulians?

no, they'll hate it. Malcolm Glazer (TB Buccaneers) bought Manchester United last year and they fans protested for months. Lerner (Cleveland Browns) bought Aston Villa this year and the fans didnt like it too much either, but then they started winning we havent heard anything. They are in a slump now but we/ve yet to hear anything.

i always check on ESPN soccernet or foxsoccer.com. But they are lots of soccer message boards out there like matchnight.com or bigsoccer.com.
peace.

Italian Football In Disgrace
Updated: 14:58, Saturday February 03, 2007

Italy has indefinitely suspended all international and domestic football matches after a policeman was killed during riots.

The officer who died had an explosive thrown in his face.

One of his colleagues is in a critical condition in hospital. More than 100 people were injured in the fighting.

Italian federation chiefs have now postponed all league matches this weekend and cancelled next week's friendlies involving national teams.

Violence erupted at the Serie A match between Sicilian sides Catania and Palermo, outside Catania's Angelo Massimino stadium on Friday.

I read that Brian McBride resigned with Fulham for next season so the McBride to Chicago or Columbus rumors can die down now.

Just in today:

Hicks (Texas Rangers, Dallas Stars) and Gillett (Montreal Canadiens) agreed to buy the controlling interest of Liverpool today.

beckner11, you may be a prophet.

The news just came in with an understanding that nothing is really set in stone.

Arsenal linked with American billionaire

One of the UK's newspapers, The Independent, mentions that Arsenal are in talks with an American billionaire and could become the latest English Premier League club to forge ties across the Atlantic. The newspaper reports that American billionaire Stan Kroenke is having talks with Arsenal about forming a groundbreaking partnership with his Major League Soccer (MLS) club, Colorado Rapids.

Did I hear something on ESPN this morning about games in Italy being played without spectators?

Yes that is part of the probationary period after the police officer died in the riot. This isn't the first time this has been done, I remember watching a champions league game between Roma and Barcelona and the Roman stadium was blacked out locally and no specators were allowed in the stadium as punishment for some fans throwing batteries at the referees...

Two quick questions:

1) What was the final score of that game?

2) How did both teams have to motivate themselves to get going in the game with no fans cheering on them or calling out their names? I can imagine those players feeling so weird about being in that game with no fans.
