Note: These numbers do not really reflect how good the teams are; they instead reflect how well they lived up to preseason expectations.

And USC was down for an extended period, several years ago. Now they are doing pretty well.

The 90s weren't the best of years for USC, I think we only won one Rose Bowl.

Im skeptical of that list simply because, with the exception of the last 5 years, Florida State always managed to finish the season within the top 5. They might have started at 1 and ended at five some years, but isn't that kind of putting them under extreme expectations. They were the last team to start a year at number one and never lose that spot all season (1999), although it looks as if Ohio State has a shot at that this season, barring anything bizarre happening. Oh well I guess we've been overrated while dominating a decade. I'm with you laxative, hooray for overrated teams!!!

4 of the last 5 seasons FSU has finished much lower (at the end of the season) then where they started. (The ACC got more competitive and caught up with the Noles.)

It's tough to not be on the overrated list if you're consistently a top 15 team, because the chances of you finishing higher than 15 are much slimmer than a team ranked 70 ranking higher than 70.

I agree. Tally the national championships from the overrated and underrated and you will see a huge disparity.

I will admit, except for the last 6 years, the last 15 years USC has been overrated.

Sonny you beat me to it, & I'm surprised some Huskies didn't get to it... It's got to be the Washington State Cougars... Think Ryan Leaf, remember the good years (Bledsoe, and it was a short good year), remember the #3 national ranking, & then remember the term "Coug It." Even the head coach Couged a job when he tried to leave...

I'm a homer & I'll cheer for the Cougars when I'm not cheering for the Huskies, but Oregon & Kansas State are the only teams in that realm of over-rated that I can think of off the top of my head.

I like how none of the underrated teams have one a national championship in the past 15, but a majority of the overatted have.....

Southern Cal has enjoyed a nice run under Pete Carroll but looking at the the 90s, when you failed to make a bowl in '91,'96,'97,'99 and 2000 and lost the following:

1990 Sun Bowl- Michigan State 17 Southern Cal 16
1992 Freedom Bowl- Fresno St. 24 Southern Cal 7
1998 Sun Bowl- TCU 28 Southern Cal 19

SC did win the '93 Freedom Bowl, '95 Cotton Bowl and 1996 Rose Bowl. Just a little perspective into how good things truly are for you at the moment. Enjoy it. Your people thought John Robinson/Ted Tollner/Larry Smith could do no wrong at one point, too.
