For the record:

Lamar Thomas was a member of the Hurricanes when they got in the brawl at the Cotton Bowl against Texas in 1991.

And George Teague still ran him down from behind. That was one exciting play in the Sugar Bowl that year....

the miami reaction i've heard the most is that they are glad that their team is showing some spirit.

typical miami bs. 1 game suspensions?

auburn suspended their top linebacker prospect for 6 games for an underage drinking offense.

UM guy swings a helmet and connects, 1 game?

I sure hope greater suspensions come down. Talk is cheap when you're not the coach of the team, but I'd have a hard time not suspending some of those players for the rest of the season.

All in all, both schools suspended a total of 31 players.

It was the 1993 Sugar Bowl. Thomas was the one in the interview prior to the game, when asked what he thought of Alabama's rash talking, said "Let me take my rings out of my ears." Miami had won the National Championship in 1989 & 1991. Miami lost to Tennessee in the 1990 Sugar Bowl, just as a point of fact.

This is a bit of commerative "art" depicting "The Strip." How did Gene Stallings make it to the Miami sideline to during the play (look in the lower left)? And why is he upset?

A one game suspension against Duke sends a pretty clear message that Miami and the ACC could care less about this fight.

Miami and the ACC have let the game down, that's for sure.

I agree with you but I really don't find this surprising. If this happened to another school, they probably would suspend those players longer if not for the whole season. But this is Miami, I pretty much expected them not to care much for it.

I wonder how many ND and USC players were suspended indefinitely for their actions in 1971. Give me a break...it's not just Miami.

The UM guy swinging the helmet (Anthony Reddick) has been "suspended indefinitely". Two FIU players have been dropped from the team (the guy who "started" the fight was one of them).

i would be surprised to find out that no one got suspended.

that ND/USC brawl would be a decent undercard for the miami fiu fight.

Pathetic is the only word to describe our collective effort in Week 7. Despite everyone's sub .500 week, we still cleaned up with Clemson, our non-conference game of the month winner, and Hawaii, our WAC winner, to finish up 237.5 units.

I should be 3-2. LSU covered the spread and A&M and Rutgers were both underdogs.
