Anyone know where the term "Ivy League" comes from?

I've heard a couple stories of this..

Most common, and obvious, is the name came from the ivy that grows along the walls of the buildings at Harvard, Penn, Yale, Dartmouth, Cornell, Brown, Princeton, and Columbia.

Next, "Ivy" came from the roman numeral "IV", meaning something like the four best/oldest schools in the country. Harvard, Princeton, UPenn, Yale, maybe? I'm not entirely certain. Anyone know for sure?

Both parts are correct. The Roman numeral "IV" was used by sports writers in the early 1900's to denote the four dominate east coast schools. You cheated but then again you go to a state school.

Yes, the Tennessee state flag can be seen in the scene where Delta House goes infront of the IFC.
