Jet Slides Off Chicago Runway, Kills Boy

Non-lacrosse specific topics.

Well it looks like the flight crew is saying that when the reverse thrust was engaged, there was a definate lack of deceleration noticed. I tried to decern the position of the "reversers" from Sonny's picture but no can do.

The engine has sheared off of the wing at the pylon root and I'm not really sure what kind of apparatus that CFM engines use. The old JT8D series used clam shell reverse thrust but most now use acuated "blocking doors" that swing out and behind. There's just too much damage to tell in that picture.

Since I no longer have access to the flight academy (will try over Christmas though), I'm going to try and recreate it on my FS2003 Pro. I'll have to get my flight yoke and pedals back from a friend but I think the 737 model is pretty accurate so it should work.

Another thing that is being reported is that they had a ~10kt tail wind and that ATC is very hesitant about "turning the airfield" to land in the opposite direction because that interferes with ORD patterns and traffic.

So given that wx was near minimums, 10kt tail wind, an icy runway and known 140kts at 1700', I should be able to land with 100% reverse thrust and should overrun with 0% reverse thrust.
