Working out at Harvard

they are asking for inclusion beta... I don't think they are trying discriminate against men... it is not about the men beta... the men still have options these women don't from a cultural standpoint unless some makes a very reasonable small accommodation

There isn't, just like there isn't for women either...which is my point. This is bogus. Modesty is someone's own opinion. It doesn't say in the Quran that women and men cannot workout together. It says "modesty" like most other religions do. What is modest for one person isn't modest for another.

there is... these women cannot be i the presence of male strangers with out wearing clothing that does not allows them to workout...

hell other have to put up with sodomy laws, porno laws, blue laws, sin taxes... what is 6 hours at a private gym, at one the most exclusive schools in the country matter?

They should step forward and ask for it... if the school is going to make religious accommodations on a trial basis they should do it for everyone... now name one religious instance for the private workout time for men!

There is an example of this...

Many Saudis practice a form of Islam where men and women do not intermix. Saudis men living in the US, attending Harvard, may not feel comfortable going to a gym where US women are working out, because this goes against their strict non-contact beliefs.

A male only time would then be necessary.

Valid... maybe one gym is guys only at the same time the girls is... but that would be too easy and someone would actually have to probably ask for to get it... but point it valid...I said would give up.... beta you win!

lets tear up the wheelchair ramps first
then get rid of Kosher and vegetarian alternatives in the cafeteria
special education --> you got a learning disability that needs accommodation you might as well drop out dumby <-- no degree for you
screw braille
& handicap parking
& signers during speechs
& hearing impaired TV and teaching options
no more meals after dark you fasters cafeteria is closed
health leave gone better not get depression at college cause we can't help
and forget about pregnancy leave ladies
we can finally have some sunday classes
finally no more religious holiday considerations... hell yeah

yeah... to hell special accommodations... those women are the oppressors of the male majority! It makes me sick thanks beta for putting in perspective... if we let this 6 hours go we will forever be at the mercy of helping someone that wants to belong... they are completely out of line!

FWIW, I went to a large university where they instituted a policy that you had to have at least short sleeves when in the gym. Their stated reason was that "some people felt uncomfortable with people walking around with bare shoulders." I countered that I was uncomfortable with people walking around with their shoulders covered, but for some reason my discomfort carried less weight than the discomfort of these unnamed students.

I also pointed out that it was patently ridiculous that I could go to class wearing a muscle shirt, where it was arguably inappropriate, but I could not go to they gym wearing one, where that is accepted attire in most gyms in the country. But some knucklehead in the administration had made up his or her mind and there was no changing things.

This, incidentally, is a fundamental problem with discourse in this country: people make up their minds, then ignore arguments against their own position even when they carry the full weight of logic--or, worse yet, they take those logical arguments as personal attacks. I like to think that I am willing to adopt my viewpoint based on logical arguments, and I do so on a regular basis, especially when it comes to debates on the finer points of the rules (which--surprise, surprise--I think are heaps of fun).

All but four of those things you just brought up were not personal choices, but something that the person could not change. There is a difference between choosing not to do something and not having a choice. At least keep the examples within the realm.

Then the rest of them do not segregate other people. If kosher or vegetarian is offered, guarantee there will be meat and some manufactured food too. Just don't take a class on Sunday if you don't want to, but I don't really know a lot of places that have school on Sunday to begin with. Religious holidays pretty much are already thrown out the window thanks to the PC Parade. No more Christmas and Easter Break, it is Winter and Spring Break. The comment about no food after dark was just wack, everyone knows there is always 4th Meal! :D

yah.. those examples of helping people or making accommodations for people are wak... yah they can't help it (pregnancy?) so those examples are way off... hmmm....I thought people were arguing one inconvenience for the majority is discrimination... I just must have imagined that they equated segregated waiting rooms with not having access to an ab roller on tuesday morning.... uh... I guess I imagined that... you are right timba those women are really hurting people... we need to stop their oppressive burka wearing freedom hating people and make them start acting free... they want an accommodation... go back to somewhere else!

ACCOMMODATION IS SEGREGATION!
thanks timba that really helped
