There can be no George Mason in NCAA DI football. . . .

I think everyone has a chance. It is all in the out of conference scheduling. If you don't schedule cupcakes you have a better chance. Fresno State "plays anyone, anytime" and have made a name for themselves, save this year, by playing traditional powerhouses. If you are from a "soft league" you have to play and beat the big dogs when the opportunity arises.

Of course not everyone can schedule and beat the potential SEC champs(Arkansas), the potential Big 12 champs(Nebraska), and Notre Dame(11/25), but then again...not everyone is championship material.

How many people were calling for Paterno's resignation just a couple of seasons ago? Who knows if Bowden's got more championship caliber seasons left in him.

I think everyone forgets that the NCAA has one priority above all, make the game financially viable. Look at the television contracts, licensing deals etc. You think that a true national champion is in those cards?

BCS Standings.

Rutgers shot up there very, very quickly - but it appears as if the ND/USC winner will get a shot against the OSU/Mich winner.

So if Florida loses, then the winner of USC/ND very likely will be playing for the National Championship. That means if Michigan loses a very close game on the road to OSU, they could be watching ND, a team they destroyed, play in the title game.

Michigan controls their own destiny at the moment. If they want to play in Glendale, then know what to do on Saturday afternoon.

Reserve some field space at Glendale Community College and set up an intrasquad scrimmage? :D

This is a false argument. To say, "Everyone has a chance at the beginning of the season because it is possible for some teams to schedule strong out-of-conference opponents" ignores the fact that it is simply impossible for everyone to do that. Thus, no matter what, every season begins with a large number of teams that could, in principle, go undefeated and not have any chance to win the national championship.

Especially given that 2/3 of the BCS formula comes from the human polls and the voters are so heavily biased against new comers.

Very true, but the human poll is actually what's keeping them back. If they defeat WVU then there will def be some problems going undefeated and beating 2, top 10 teams.

The only problem is that the two teams that they beat are suspect. The biggest OOC win in that conference is against a 5 loss Miami. They are clearly the best in the Big East, but that's not saying much. I think a bowl game of an undefeated Rutgers vs. undefeated Boise St. would be solid.
