This is the same logic that kept Jim Crow laws in effect from Reconstruction until the 1960's. There was a time and place for teaching whites life lessons, but not while they're busy eating in their whites only restaurant or peeing in their whites only bathroom or drinking from their whites only water fountain.

Life was still moving, so why change it?? I guess it just takes millions of people who are finally fed up with being second-class citizens to make them pull the car over and then realize your engine is on fire. May we never stop to challenge the status quo, because everyone is happy like they are.

I think you're a little out of line here. Just because Jana felt he couldn't address it at that moment doesn't mean he's letting it drop completely. It sounds like he wants to address it.

Besides, sometimes taking the time to formulate a thoughtful response is far better than blurting out the first thing you think of.
If any of you are ever in the greater Seattle area, I'd be happy to take you out in my coaching boat, so you can observe the controlled chaos that we call boat launching, and the military precision and pressure involved to get each $30,000 boat launched in 90 seconds or less. It is totally different than a lacrosse scenario, where I could tell the boys to run a field drill and talk to the boy on the side. I was taken by surprise at the comment, and obviously didn't have the "perfect" answer on the tip of my tongue.

If any of you are in the Seattle area, come over to Lake Sammamish and I'd be happy to give you a ride in the coaching boat so you can see boat launching for yourself. I need someone to man a stopwatch in a few weeks anyway, because we are seat racing athletes, in preparation for an upcoming regatta. I waited until the regatta on Saturday to address the issue with the parents. They chose to speak to the boy about socially appropriate things to say or not say about religion, and making accusations that someone is chosen for a promotion / captain position / whatever due to religious affiliation.

I still think the kid has terminal foot-in-mouth disease, and someday he is going to get pulled over by a cop, mouth off, and end up with a picture of his severely beaten face as the lead story on CNN about police brutality.

Just to be clear, I am female and play / umpire / administer the women's game. My rowing club just needed a warm body to fill the boys novice coaching position this fall. Lucky me.
