What a terrible story. I know the media is playing up the "cheerleader" angle, but still... 5 kids from one class only days after graduation and dying in such a horrific way.

Sad story indeed, the accident actually happened in my hometown, probably a 5 minute drive from where I used to live.
As for the media playing up the "cheerleader" thing, I had this discussion on another message board yesterday...I think reason "cheerleader" is used because a) it was a common bond between all of them and b) it's what they exceled at (they were national champions). If you were to look at any other story involving death whether it be firefighters, a scientist, wrestler, hot dog eating champion, etc. it would state what they are most known for in the title.

CNN is saying that friends of these girls and the truck driver attempted to save some who survived before flames broke out at 50 feet in the air. What a helpless feeling they must have had. Could you ever get over looking someone in the face and not being able to help them?

Sounds a lot like a story involving a young lady who used to live across the street from me. She was traveling with her friends during spring break and had a similar accident. Very devestating, of course. Not a good way to console the families. All you can do is pray and hope the families find a way to move on with their lives.
