I disagree. The spin of the numbers absolutely has politics, or she would have said "clinton got 5 seats in the house back".

That's why she's crazy. she spins and spins and spins. she must get really dizzy. If she doesn't like facts, she takes different sub facts, and words them so that she likes them.

I should have stopped reading after this :)

Ann Coulter wrote:In fact, if the Democrats' pathetic gains in a sixth-year election are a statement about the war in Iraq, Americans must love the war! As Roll Call put it back when Clinton was president: "Simply put, the party controlling the White House nearly always loses House seats in midterm elections" -- especially in the sixth year.

In Franklin D. Roosevelt's sixth year in 1938, Democrats lost 71 seats in the House and six in the Senate.

In Dwight Eisenhower's sixth year in 1958, Republicans lost 47 House seats, 13 in the Senate.

In John F. Kennedy/Lyndon Johnson's sixth year, Democrats lost 47 seats in the House and three in the Senate.

In Richard Nixon/Gerald Ford's sixth year in office in 1974, Republicans lost 43 House seats and three Senate seats.

Even America's greatest president, Ronald Reagan

but stopped here instead.

I see what you are saying but I have already noted that Clinton doesn't fit the mold because of his party's large losses in '94. So yes, Clinton got 5 seats back of the 49 that were lost during the Republican Revolution. I tried to do a little dotcomming to de-Coulterize these numbers but that would not be what I'm paid to do and it looked to be a daunting task.

Even I believe Mr. Coulter's numbers! What I don't believe is the notion that conservative pundits thought they were in trouble. All my Fox friends...Gingrich, Delay, Hannity, Rush, Morris and too many more to name, all said they would win both houses! That is not rallying the troops, that is ignorance, and apparently to Mr. Coulter (and many others no doubt) it is ignoring history. These people are paid to make these type of predictions, and I'd say they performed horribly. I thought they were supposed to be fair and balanced, not blind. Of course, the following day, these same people said they were "happy" the Republicans lost and that they saw it coming. Sigh.
Monica Lewinsky had more president in her than George Bush ever will.

Here's one plan that has been offered up by a Democratic presidential candidate several month ago;

Former senator George McGovern and William R. Polk, a leading authority on the Middle East, offer a detailed plan for a speedy troop withdrawal from Iraq.

During the phased withdrawal, to begin on December 31, 2006, and to be completed by June 30, 2007, they recommend that the Iraq government engage the temporary services of an international stabilization force to police the country. Other elements in the withdrawal plan include an independent accounting of American expenditures of Iraqi funds, reparations to Iraqi civilians for lives lost and property destroyed, immediate release of all prisoners of war, the closing of American detention centers, and offering to void all contracts for petroleum exploration, development, and marketing made during the American occupation.

Well it's nice to see that the new spirit of bipartisanship has taken hold here in the Water Cooler political forums!
Can't we all sit around and sing a few bars of Kumbayah?
(I did say it was incredibly naive.)

Now that the Dems have officially taken over the Senate as well as the House, they better hope they can make a significant change in policy and results, both in Iraq and at home, or they will be facing a reversal in 2008. I can already hear the "I told you so"s coming from the Republican party when and if the Democrats are unable to make much progress. In my opinion, they will have more success gaining the country's respect and trust if they are able to reach to the middle a little bit more than the polarizing effect of the Republicans lately.
Always on point . . .
